I thought at first you'd downloaded a speeding app Steve

I've used my Garmin bike GPS for similar tests in the car before now... It don't half make you look a fast cyclist ;)

Coming up the M6 speedo showed 60 app showed 66

Speedo showed 70 app showed 76

So basically the speedo is showing 10% under the app

Definitely something wrong then as the speedo should over read by about 5% not under read. I would be strongly inclined to believe the GPS reading. How strange!

In one of my earlier posts there was a link to a similar issue with a C5. It explains how to take the instrument binnacle out (just need two credit cards or similar), and how to swap the stepper motors over (between speedo and rev counter). If the motor is at fault a new stepper motor is supposed to cost around £25.

Here is that link;

Today, I've pottered about and repaired the tailgate glass so it now opens, using the excellent guide posted on this forum. I've also touched up the centre caps off the wheels I got from Davie. The weather is supposed to be nice tomorrow so I'll have a play with the binnacle, it needs to come out anyway, there's a few bulbs out.

James,

Thanks for that, It will make life a lot easier.

Excellent Steve :) Yes, weather does look excellent for the whole weekend :D I foresee much work being done on my 207 to make it ready for a potential sale and no doubt lots of cycling too...

Where's the speedo pointer when the car's at rest?
Maybe it's had a new stepper and the pointer put back on wrong.

Now that is a thought. I have noticed that the speedo is consistently 4MPH out. If it were a tyre size issue I would expect the difference to change as the speed goes up (but the percentage to be the same).

following on from Gibbo's point yesterday, the pointer is here:

which does lead me to believe the pointer is out, now for the strip down..............

Definitely looks out!

But where should it be aligned ? On the first dot ? It's not always obvious on some speedos where the 0 position should be...

Does anyone have the same style speedo on their C5 who could post a picture of it sitting in the rest position ?

See this one: E-bay C5

Fourth pic shows the dash, and if you zoom in you can see it's pointing at the dot below 10.

I've just checked mine and the pointer is sitting precisely on the round dot, the handbook pictures also show it in the same place.
