It is quite ridiculous to be honest, still no word but something of interest to me is the fact that a local traffic officer shares the name Michael Jennings (The same as the Audi's owner!) and we were pulled over by him last week for a "check" so I'm beginning to wonder if something more underhand is going on.
Certainly the way it's been "handled" has been less than useless & we're also considering whether or not to furnish the local paper with photos of the vehicles, details of the incident and the name-sharing "coincidence" to see what they make of it since it's their job to be nosey and have contacts who could shed light on whether this is as seedy as I'm thinking.
On a lighter note, although I completely failed to take photos yet again (just got stuck in as soon as I woke up!) I have the worst part of the quarter panel cut out now & the underpinnings straightened enough that a lamp unit now fits roughly where it should and the tailgate closes again. I was intending to fit the axle before starting bodywork but I was in the mood for using big hammers today so that's what got done!
Pretty sore now though & couple of blisters but definitely got more done than the coppers.

Sometimes the Police protect their own (over the needs of the Public). Earlier this year there was a case when a couple of narrowboats with a large group of men on-board, drunk, rowdy and flashing people on the banks. People took footage and reported the incidents, but the Police said the footage was not clear enough to be used as evidence (unlikely, as details such as the boat markings were clearly visible and easily legible). It appears that the group were Prison Officers.

From a purely practical point of view, I'd be inclined to concentrate on getting the civil proceedings started, just a matter of a letter summarising the facts, a breakdown of the amount you are claiming (don't forget loss of use & enjoyment, inconvenience & incidental expenses) and asking for settlement in full within, say, 21 days or you will instigate proceedings in your nearest County Court. That gives you a couple of weeks to get the forms from them, all ready to submit on the 22nd day.

The local rag may be hesitant to make even veiled accusations of police impropriety but Facebook/Titter won't have the same restrictions.

Oops, still no photos how lax of me! Not a huge amount more progress though as been a bit ill, but have all the parts needed to repair the car to a roadworthy state either in-hand or in the post. Must say I'm impressed by the perceived quality of the £20 Comline wishbone I bought (decided to go with a new item as the balljoint on the spares car has a damaged boot which was on it's MoT fail in 2018 so likely that'd last all of 2 miles!).
The Comline item just looks and feels great quality, and the machine work is a thing of beauty too!

Re: Tales from beyond the grave AKA Dan & Emma's Black Xantia, pug 206HDi and now, Daniel's 206 Verve 1.4i...
Time, weather and health have precluded any work on the blue 206s of late but we do have an "amusing" development in that we have someone (supposedly a woman police officer at that!) attempting to fraudulently claim for injuries and damage to her husband's Focus ST now as well...
They say things happen in threes, God forbid I find out the third one lest I go loopy! Anyway, a fortnight or so ago Emma was driving our eldest lad to his nana & granddad's in the evening while I stayed home with the youngest. About 15 minutes later Emma & Dan arrived back in a state of confusion saying they thought they'd hit another car. Speaking further about it, what happened was the traffic in front had stopped for a car turning right & Emma stopped fairly close to the back of another car only for the driver to jump out and claim she'd hit it!
Anyway, I suppose in shock at being accosted in the middle of traffic by a random woman & already a bit mind-mashed by the whole insurance rubbish with the blue car, Emma agreed to pull into a side street and exchange details even though there was no visible evidence of contact (in fact on reflection, neither Emma or Daniel heard/felt any coming together of vehicles!). So after inspecting the grey car & talking it over we were all of the opinion that the other woman was paranoid or at the very worst the vehicles may have touched but not hit per-se so we, frankly, forgot about the whole incident what with the other fun we're going through currently.
That's until last week when we get a return call from our insurance confirming the sequence of events and breaking the news to us that, not only was this woman claiming the vehicle was damaged by ours but ALSO that she and a passenger (of which nobody has any recollection!) were injured in the so-called "incident"!
The insurers, after asking for confirmation that our vehicle was undamaged in the form of photographs, and asking various questions about seatbelts tightening etc admitted they were as surprised as we were to be receiving such a claim & would be passing it on to their "low velocity impact" team (another name for "fraud team" perhaps?) for further investigation.
We've just had a voicemail from insurers now asking to call back and arrange for an engineer to come and inspect the vehicle also, so I'm guessing this woman (who claimed at the scene to be an off-duty police officer) is pushing the matter rather more than I'd have expected. Surely she doesn't expect to get away with a fraud, does she? I mean, I can't say for sure whether the 2 cars touched as I wasn't there but both Emma and Dan are not stupid nor comatose and I'd expect them to have noticed if the car they were in had hit another.
Not to mention I'd expect a vehicle as lightly built as a 206 (note-: not a dig, it's a small French car, we know what to expect! and I love them!) to display some evidence of an impact, actually I KNOW it would have done because the week before all this, the blue car did indeed crash into the back of the grey car at low speed after being hit by the Audi, and that caused a bent bonnet, smashed headlight and broken grille not to mention twisted rad support, scuffing/trading of paint and cracking the grey car's back bumper, so in my opinion they simply CANNOT have hit another car! What a lovely crimbo present all this stress and worry has been, sorry just venting mainly but can anyone shed any light on why the hell this woman would say all this & push the claim this far? I honestly worry that there's some loophole that means she could get paid out for nothing at our expense?

Same, to be fair if anything comes of this rubbish I'll be left wondering if there really is any point in paying for insurance and trying to be a decent honest upstanding person. If we'd had no insurance and Emma had just waved the "V's" and driven off I feel like we'd have been treated better... (At worst she'd have had a free meal and a brew while talking to real police who'd get to the bottom of what really happened & at best that's the last we'd have heard of the daft bovine in the Focus full stop!).
In all seriousness though I know that's not an option, but in the situation with the blue car we'd have been better off if it wasn't insured since we could've claimed through the MIB then. Crazy world we live in lol, just got to keep your head up & be thankful for small mercies like finding the spares car in the same colour. Merry Christmas in case they cart me off to the funny farm before I can get back online!

I wonder if you could discretely find out if she really is in the police. If she isn't then she can be done for impersonating a police officer and that will discredit her whole claim.

Might I suggest that (as a Christmas present to yourselves) you invest in dash cameras for your cars. OK, that is a bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted, but they could help for future peace of mind. They are not that expensive (around £50 for a good one), and come with almost everything you need (you may need to buy a memory card). They can plug into the cigarette lighter socket (the cable is usually 3 meters long, so can be routed around the windscreen trim) and are easy to install.

Not sure that merely claiming to be a police officer actually constitutes impersonating one or that a dashcam would've helped in either of these situations.
A picture of the relative positions of the 2 cars at the time would've been more useful - but that would've meant getting out of the car &, frankly I wouldn't even have opened a window.
Curious as to what evidence of damage to the Focus will be submitted, of course if she'd recently backed into something she probably thinks she's onto a winner - but any such damage is hardly likely to be consistent with a barely moving impact.

Dashcam is already here (early present haha!) and will be in service as soon as a suitable card arrives for it
Agreed I don't think it's actually impersonating an officer just bloody cheeky if she's not one! Her claim of authority has been noted by the insurers anyway so any funny business will surely count further against her.
The planets finally aligned to such an extent today that the blue 206 is now at least driveable again, it has 4 unsmashed wheels.tyres, brakes (what a novelty!) and a straight wishbone plus lights on every corner. The mullered quarter panel is still in-situ albeit "massaged" a little and with an ironic wrap of plasticised wrapping paper in a similar colour, with cars on! Just got back from a test drive and it's handling like it should, tracking may be a squint off but we're going to get it redone anyway as the wishbone has been replaced. ABS lamp is still lit (not sure if ABS codes need to be reset on PP2000 or if there's still a fault there?) and I must have done something to a pad wear sensor while working on the wishbone because it occasionally squeaks about brakes/fluid level even though it's a little over the full mark (throws on the handbrake lamp & flashing STOP command). Still, I call that a win considering the car started the day off with 2.5 wheels at strange angles! Young Dan is a lot happier now, just need to do the quarter panel & lamp housing swap some time before the weather gets toward painting season and it can finally look like nothing happened.

Never talk to the other persons insurance company. That's what you pay yours to do. I had a small car hit my SAAB900 years back. It was my fault. I was turning right, some muppet with a dog on an extendable lead let it run in front of me. I stopped in the middle of the oncoming traffic. A week later I got a phone call from the other persons insurance company asking for details of the accident saying their client had suffered whip lash. Probably a 3rd party company on a no win no fee gamble. I told them 'contact my insurance company, you have the contact info, good day' Nothing ever came back. 10 years ago here in France down a little lane I touched mirrors with a young lady, presumably in her parents car. I stopped, took a photo of both mirrors, measured the road width, then gave her my details, nothing came back. Don't move the car, take photos. All the best of luck

just been catching up here the last two pages, not got much to add; but other than to say 'Hang on in There', things have clearly been properly weird and not a little bit stressful.
...and it all made quite entertaining reading too [is that a bad thing?]
