Jim, the Daewoo you're thinking of was the Nexia I believe. They were shocking things even when new. They'd got the spring rates all wrong and it felt like you were driving around with four flat tyres all the time...Or that might have just been the tin foil they called a body flexing...
Will be curious to see how this all pans out to be honest.

It was truly horrible! I was so glad it was a hire car and I only had it for two journeys... Shows how awful it must have been that it has stuck in my memory!

Re: PSA in talks to acquire Opal
That was the mk2 astras although it wasn't so dire when it was an astra. However not nearly such a good or such a nice looker as the original astra. I still love them, I had two of them, a 1982 X plate and a 1984 A plate, which was followed by a 1985 B plate cavalier mk2, and the first astra was preceded by a cavalier mk 1. That was my vauxhall days. The cavalier mk3 was a bit bloated, my dad had one, the vectra was just truly awful. I went Renault, rover, rover, rover then citroen after the vauxhall stage which finished when I was 26.

Re: PSA in talks to acquire Opal
Well, it appears that the PSA group has decided to buy out the Opal/Vauxhall group for £1.9Bn. The worrying bit is the pensions deficit. It appears to be quite large (about £7Bn!).

Great. So soon you'll be able to buy cars that catch fire, but leak badly enough to put themselves out..

Citropel has a nice ring about it...
Maybe the Vauxhall name and all derivatives of it can now be put to bed for good... That will be one good outcome of any merger

Re: PSA in talks to acquire Opal
Don't worry Jim, PSA will try and link the DS to Vauhall/Opel and rewrite history to prove it
Maybe this..... the POSVA Insignia
Has Holden (Australia) also been included in this deal ?

Re: PSA in talks to acquire Opal
From what I heard it was only the European division (with all 10 factories) was being taken over.

Re: PSA in talks to acquire Opal
Haven't quite got the facts or evidence at my fingertips, just a feeling that the "deal" has more than a whiff of desperation about it on both sides, and the "fine print" reveals more than the headline. GM have for a considerable cost (to them as the fine details reveal), managed to unload a long standing headache, and all PSA have "bought" is a guaranteed headache.
There may be some logic that escapes me, which may be one of the reasons I am not a board member at PSA. They appear to have been convinced that to take the Company forward, and prepare it to compete in massively changing times for the car industry, the best idea is to acquire loss-making a group of factories and a couple of brand names, and a series of models which they don't really want to make anymore.
Some comments attributed to PSA in the article are also revealing.

Regards NeilPSA has said many countries are reluctant to buy French cars and the Opel brand will help them expand into new markets.

Latest on this from the BBC News...

Seems the future of the UK Factories may be in the hands of the staff... As per Nissan in Geordieland perhaps?
