I'm refurbing an old Technics separates system at the moment. Got a number of old LPs... remember them, but nothing in a fit state to play them on these days. The SLB2 turntable runs a bit ropey so i'm going to open it up and give it a spray all round soon. Will need a preamp if i move it to my av receiver which gasnt a phono input but maybe the old amp will scrub up as well, who knows. Knobs and dials all feel wonky to me and theres a lot of crackle so its maybe too far gone. We'll see soon once my Deoxit kit arrives thanks to a plethora of amazon vouchers for xmas. My house is a treasure trove of everything electrical from 1970 onwards. Computers, satellite, hifi, laserdisc, dvd changers. Everything is still there. I throw nothing out. Just cant bear to [emoji6]. Thats the reason i still have two non running activae and one v6. Oh ... and a wife of equal longstanding for the same reason, almost forgot!

Got a Pioneer one here you're welcome to Jim. Pretty standard 70s or 80s bit of kit really - so perfectly capable as an average listener and far and above the Crosleys and such that are all over the market these days...Heck, my main deck is a Sanyo that was far from the top of the tree at the time, but sounds as good as any other deck I've heard.
It does I think need I think an 18V power supply though, but I find it doubtful such a thing would be a challenge for you!
Yours if you want it!

It is interesting that you say that the Bose Sound Link Colour is OK, we bought one last year and immediately regretted it, as the sound quality is nowhere near as good as the old Bose Sound Dock I or II. Our Sound Dock I has been upgraded with a blue tooth receiver and the Sound Dock II is used as a speaker on one of our TVs.

Will put it to one side and drop it off next time I'm over in your direction then. It's a PL-110 if you want to look stuff up for it.CitroJim wrote:Yes please ZelZelandeth wrote:Got a Pioneer one here you're welcome to Jim.Would love it. Thanks!

Re: Random Audio Rant...
If there are any flea markets near you they are worth a look Jim.
My eldest granddaughter has developed a lust for vinyl, I gave her my late wife's Akai separates system and she loves it and has bought loads of LPs at mainly markets, lots of it still new in the cellophane and none of it in poor condition, all quite cheap.

Specifically I'm after Barclay James Harvest albums Steve... Can't imagine they're going to be easy to acquire in your average Charity outlet...
We'll see...

Jim, the Age Concern warehouse up at Kiln Farm usually have a decent selection. That's where a fair amount of mine has come from. They have recently upped the prices on their vinyl though which is a bit annoying.
Will drop you a link to a spreadsheet of what I've got here later on if I get time, certainly welcome to borrow stuff for a listen.
I'll keep my eyes open for any Barclay James Harvest albums for you as well. Someone I really should listen to at some point given the stories my parents told of their crossing paths with them in the past!

Re: Random Audio Rant...
I have some audio cleaning software here that will take a CD (or any other digital recording) and add hiss, rumble, clicks, surface noise, wow and flutter, in any quantity you fancy. Probably heresy in the vinyl community!

I love vinyl for DJing (can't beat the feel of using it compared to CD decks or Controllers, plus there is no 'cheating - it requires actual genuine skill) but way prefer CD's for general listening. Still an avid CD purchaser rather than downloading.
I do a lot of internet radio streaming though (in the car as well as the barn/home)
