Looks as though there is a body in there trying to get out :)

Did nobody tell you - you have to turn the car upside down and refill it via the drain hole :-D

Probably not far off, have you found the dipstick for it yet. I'd get a funnel into that if it's anything like the box on my V6.

Not sure about the 14 but the similar 4HP18 has a yellow filler cap on the top of the tin valve block cover...

Else as James says, in via the dipstick hole...

Measure the amount of old ATF and put the same amount back in...

Remember to check level with the engine idling and gearbox hot after moving the selector lever from P to the opposite end and and back to P again

Now it's sounding complicated, mines high on the dipstick but I checked it with engine off, cold and without doing gear lever Citrobics. I've a lot to learn about autos.

It will appear high under those conditions James.. Yours is checked in the same way but with the ATF at 80 degrees...

In theory you should use a Lexia to ensure the temperature is right but normal hot after a good run is good enough...

Lexia is on the list of things I need this year. I was hoping to get an introduction to it next time I visit you Jim. Don't think I'll have the Xantia back by then unfortunately. I'm really missing it at the minute and getting daily reports on it. It's still ploughing through water despite the stop leak which is quite worrying as it's the matrix and the waters got to be going somewhere..

We seem to be confusing 4hp14 and 4hp20 here, which are completely different beasts.

It's ok I know mines the 4hp20 and different. I'm just interested in auto boxes for the first time so I'm paying a lot of attention.

The method to check the ATF level is the same Mike.

But not the measurement of temperature with Lexia. Also no need to measure fluid removed from 4hp14?

Strictly not but I just find it's easier to measure the old out and measure the new in... Just my own method and the way I prefer to do it. That is all.

The Lexia was strictly in relation to James question and not directed at the HP14 or autoboxes in general.

I'm sorry if I caused confusion.
