Re: Headlamp power, well I never knew that!
You'd be suprised Jim, all it takes is for one person to mention him not using his lights and they'll drag him through the coals. I've always been a firm advocate of bending rules if there is a real reason.
whenever I managed a store i'd be lax enough for people to work hard enough and do a good job without being an arse over minor details, staff always preferred it and worked better.

Yes, I can fully believe that. It's not just sad it's bloody tragic. I've been on the receiving ends of rollickings a few times for bending the rules to get a job done in a timely and effective manner...chinkostu wrote:You'd be suprised Jim, all it takes is for one person to mention him not using his lights and they'll drag him through the coals.
Even more tragically I found it better to keep my mouth shut and just do as per the rules and hang the consequences. Took a long time and I still occasionally fall of that particular wagon...
You're my kind of boss Stu I'd be happy to work for you!chinkostu wrote:whenever I managed a store i'd be lax enough for people to work hard enough and do a good job without being an arse over minor details, staff always preferred it and worked better.

Re: Headlamp power, well I never knew that!
Well sometimes it is totally against my nature not to argue but all i can say here is I totally agree with everything that has been said. I suffer with a condition called dry eye where in have to lubricate my eyes frequently with artificial tears and you know that image retentention you get when you close your eyes after catching a bright light? Well withvdry eyes that can last as longcas half an hour. If my eyes are beginning to dry out whilst driving the brightest headland can also give a burning sensation in the back of the eyes which causes severe irritatuon meaning I need to pull over asap toblube my eyes. Its amazing what a tginbfilm of fluid and oil does to protect your eyes from damage.personally I think HiD lamps should be banned and manufacturers should be made to set up headlamps properly before selling vehicles to the customer. We have a local mot station that fails h I d lamps always as they have a very little definition. Xenon is about as bright as lamps need to be. Ibalso agree that even with excellent hearing I could always hear the emergency de da tone from many hundreds of yards away but the american sirens I struggle to know which way they are comming from. Good subject needs more opinions please? Perhaps as a reputable forum we carry some weight and let authorities know how we feelnas drivers?

I also find the latest emergency lights a bit much. They don't bother me in the rear mirror but after the vehicle passes the rear facing lights hurt my eyes.

You've actually got HIDs on your new car Nigel (xenon is just the gas used in the bulb). I think the general complaints are with the HID conversion kits which are not legal in the UK as they inevitably don't include headlight levellers or a headlamp wash system and are more importantly are not designed for the housing. Generally seen on the boy racer brigade and they do dazzle.

Yes, indeed. These can be the work of the devil... I'm in full agreement there should be a complete ban on these HID conversions and no car so fitted should ever pass an MOT.GiveMeABreak wrote:You've actually got HIDs on your new car Nigel (xenon is just the gas used in the bulb). OE HIDs are generally OK - until the levelling system packs up and that seems to be a quite a common problem now.

Re: Headlamp power, well I never knew that!
I've found the following a contentious issue, inappropriate use of rear fog lights! Like when it's slightly misty but normal rear lights can still be seen for 100's of mtrs, or, and this is really my pet hate, in rain! Then when they are left on after being used in fog, and the fog disappeared days ago! Grrr! When I've mentioned this in conversation though, although alot do agree, some think it's no big deal! The problem is now worse with the advent of LED lights! Rear fogs should only be used when visibility is down to a few car lengths.

Re: Headlamp power, well I never knew that!
I do hate it when people use fog lights (front and rear) as soon as the visibility drops by 1% (and with the e-cigarettes on the rise there can be quite a bit of fog in towns). I also didn't know there were some many cars with automatic gearboxes on the road. I cannot think of any other reason people don't use the hand brake when stopped at traffic lights.

Oh I'm so glad the brake light thing has been mentioned! Again, much worse with LED lighting! Also, those that sit in car parks for minutes on end with headlights on!

Re: Headlamp power, well I never knew that!
Tell me about it Our little town has three e-cig shops and the fug that rolls out of those is epic. I often find myself running through it and I find it as objectionable as cigarette smoke and has about the same effects on me...Hell Razor5543 wrote:... I know a person who has one of these huge e-cigs and when he goes out for a puff he disappears in a cloud
I am simply staggered as to how popular they seem to be...

It's strange Jim - you have seen how I react to fag smoke and perfume/deodorant/aftershave and even fabric conditioner but efags have no effect whatsoever.
Which supports my specialists theory that it is actually aldehydes I react to.
As for the fog and brakelights, couldn't agree more.

I thought you were kidding! Really? Perhaps because I live in the wilderness - only see the odd e-puffer in town, but it's obviously an issue over with you!

The Vapour is water/glycerine (food grade) + tiny amounts of flavouring and trace nicotine....how much is held in the exhalation I do not know.
