Dave, delighted to hear it's sorted :D

These electric handbrakes I just can't get my head around them at all... In fact I just can't get my head around modern cars...

May our oldies faithfully carry us on for a good while yet ;)

I'm in no hurry for anything modern again any time soon...

I remember a TV sketch when somebody was going on about how clever his new car was, and it had a lot of voice activated equipment. He offered to show his mate, and while they were driving around another vehicle cut them up. The driver shouted "BUGGER!", and then the expression on his face got interesting.

I tried the Ubu but it was a bit too malty, I've had Mad Goose in the pub and that's nice. I think they're a Leicester brewery. My favourite has to be Enville Ale.

It's a local brewery from near Stourbridge. It has honey in it and has a beautiful sweet taste. They also do one with just a hint of ginger in it, very moreish!

Well a bit of good and bad news. Eurocarcare near Derby have a gearshift cable so I'll get that ordered as I don't trust the repair, although it feels positive. The clutch has gone heavy again. They said they "freed the cable off". Obviously an 18 year old cable doesn't free off. So I'm frustrated today and my left knee is aching! I seem to be stuck in a rut and not moving right now.

Yum, honeyed beer sounds rather special Dave. I love honey and I'm a bit of a connoisseur of it and use it as a natural sweetener in preference to sugar. I get through an awful lot of it and if I want a real treat I get a jar of Manuka honey...

Dad kept bees for years and years and so did I as a kid - our own honey was very special...

I'd love to know what honeyed beer tastes like but alas, that pleasure must remain all in my imagination unless they do a non-alcoholic version of it...

Odd about your clutch... Any word from the garage yet?

Is there any scope for converting a cable clutch to hydraulic, or is the cable itself not actually the cause of the problem?

On the Xantia the cable clutch is a pull mechanism on the gearbox, but on the hydraulic clutch it uses a push mechanism.

James, both are pull types albeit very different... The smaller petrols and the NA diesels had push types but the 1.9TD and up all were pullers...

The scope for conversion would be very challenging... Cable clutches are normally quite OK. Best to fix the existing issue...

The BE3 'box is not amenable to having a slave cylinder attached easily and a different/modified pedal box would be needed to accommodate the master cylinder...
