If you want to deactivate the automatic lighting function - and go manual, just switch ignition on and hold in the end of the indicator stalk button again until the beep.

I'll send you the specs for you vehicle via email as a PDF Colin as requested. :-D

Had a word at the scrappy, great blokes really know their stuff.
He said the slight problem I have could be linked to the face of the SENSOR Not being flat on the screen..But,,, says super glue etc would be no good,as it also would throw shadows onto the Sensor.. The origanol on the car is some form of CLEAR PLASTIC, Must be sticky both sides though.
does anyone know of such an animal that you can buy.????.

The sensors are contained in a silicon type gel. Once it has been contaminated by removal, they often have an opaque look like a milky residue. This is due to microscopic air bubbles that form when it is removed. There are kits you can buy that you can set and pour over the sensor prior to reattaching it. I’ll see if I can dig the link out in the morning

Hi Marc, Thanks for that mate, That is interesting.
Hope the instructions come with it,lol.
As regards to the way it lokks,,yes it looks like ,Bubbles for the want of a better word..
But can see the TOP Has liftedoff the screen a little,so I can only assume creating a small Shadows at certain light angles..
probably not the sensor, just the small shadows as said..
Thank you for the trouble..

Re: Xsara Picasso rain sensor

If the gel has become opaque or is not flat against the windscreen it will affect the light and or rain detection abilities of the sensor (s) which will of course affect the operation of the auto lights and or wipers.

I had Autoglass pay £260 for another sensor on my X7 after I had a windscreen changed, after warning them that if there was any issues after fitting I would be on their case.

Sure enough it became intermittently functional , so they called a Manager out to do a test. He wouldn't approve it initially as the wipers worked when he poured water over the screen from a watering can!. It I didn't accept it and said that is not a correct test as this version operates at multiple wiper speeds depending on rain level. So when I sprayed water on instead of pouring it on it didn't work. Anyway I threatened them with legal action and they repacked it under their insurance. I had to supply the part number as I didn't want them stuffing that up either.

I’ll see if I can dig out the link shortly to the gel kits.

Here's a brand new one for £35:

[
Rain B.PNG
Rain A.PNG
The second image looks cloudy - but that is just the protective plastic tray that protects the sensor pad until ready for applying to the windscreen. It's essential to clean the windscreen sensor area with some isopropyl alcohol or similar before removing the tape and applying. You musn't touch the gel pad with your fingers or you will have the same problems, so get some latex gloves and plan it carefully before mounting.

As some of the syringe based filling kits are about the same price, I haven't bothered linking to them as the whole new sensor here is a similar price. Others supply the pads - but getting this the right size is a fiddle.

It will be the right part if he has got his part numbers correct. A good price for a new one.

GiveMeABreak wrote: 10 Jan 2019, 23:30 Ok so I think you mean the message flashes a few times. So there may be a fault code logged, if you have access to a diagnostic tool (preferably a Lexia); that may help.

Without this it will be guesswork, as it could be Comms Unit related, rain / brightness sensor, wiring or a fuse box issue....

Can you pop your VIN up for me if you haven’t already, and I’ll see what I have.

Missed the bit about brightness sensor.
that is what I am looking at in LEXIA.
By The Way tried the Button on the stalk,it is not now working ,,,it used to.
but maybe I did turn it off after all. yes
i have the LEXIA 3 VERSION,Bought it off a bloke up north ONLY TURNED HIS TYRE PRESSURE SWITCH OFF WITH IT.LOL..

It's actually a multifunction sensor - it detects rain intensity and light intensity - so can activate wipers when raining and switches the lights on and off. :-D

Pressing that button on its own does nothing - this is how you activate and deactivate the auto lights function:
  • With the engine switched off, place the ignition key in the “Accessories” position.
  • Place the lighting stalk in position '0'.
  • Press at the end of the control. A sound signal (beep) accompanied by a message confirms that the function is activated.
You may need to hold the end button in a few seconds - but you will know when you get the beep and the message - just repeat to reactivate again.
