Current situation is this.

Ray Noon has said he wants the car. However, today it's been delivered here for me to remove and replace the oil cooler. I'll report back with my findings both to Ray and everyone else.

Am I right in thinking that once the oil cooler is removed and cleaned, if I blow hard into one of the water inlets and stop off the other, we should expect it to pass air into the oil ways because we believe it's knacked.. If it doesn't then the problem with this car lies elsewhere?

It could be that the leak only opens up with heat and pressure.

You'd need to suck on the water inlet:outlet as its only opening the other way but it also depends how small the hole is.

If anyone on the forum buys it to break/spares, may i be as bold as to ask for first refusal on the drivers seat if it's available ????

Cheers Paul....

Well I got the oil cooler off this afternoon, I also managed to drain the cooling system of about 1/2 pint of water, the rest refused to come out as it's more of a solid than liquid.

The oil cooler itself was impossible to even blow through until I'd managed to get some of that gunge out with fairy liquid and hot water, having cleared it out completely, no matter how much sucking or blowing on either of the pipes shows any signs of leakage into the oil ways. I've even boiled it in a pan of boiling water, still no sign of leaks.
My gut feeling is that it's the headgasket that's failed on this one. On monday I may be able to get the oil cooler hydraulically tested, so now waiting until the "new" oil cooler arrives.

As the car is not currently for sale, and this topic now has content that may be of lasting interest, and topics in the for sale section are automatically deleted after a while, I have moved this topic to the Citroen forum.

Just a note to say "this car is still available" the seller mentioned last night that he'd be happy to take 80quid for it.
Anyone considering it should bear in mind, I'm certain the headgasket has failed and would only drive a short distance. Having said that, it must be worth at least that much for the seats and the alloy wheels with 3 VERY good tyres on, the 4th is legal but not fantastic.
I could also arrange for delivery at a very competitive price providing the car is paid for in advance.. PM me and I'll put you in touch with the seller.

Regards Ken
