Looks like a 16v from the pic.

No problems make sure injectors tight and not leaking and keep to 6k oil changes and you should go at least 200k - its a good engine if looked after.

Need the last 8 digits to get anywhere....

Anyway, no DPF on yours - if there is one then it's in that cannister on the front of the engine, and its presence is given away by 2 stainless pipes screwed in, one down the front left (as you look at if), and other on the outlet pipe; and a temperature sensor screwed into the front right. The cat is in the top - if no DPF then the bottom section is empty.

I'm not sure about this but maybe someone else will know if it's good or if it's a safe download.

I downloaded that as an .odt then scanned it for any virus, came up clean so you should be OK to proceed.

More questions, sorry! Will my engine have the turbo feed with the filter in it? Also I take it no dpf is a good thing? Still haven't got round to start the service yet :-(

Probably will have the filter in the turbo oil feed yes.

No DPF = Something less to go wrong as if you've not got one it can't break. Although not exactly 100% accurate, think of it as a kind of 'extra' exhaust cat designed to 'filter' out more of the bits of particles.

Sometimes DPF and DMF can be confused. A 'DMF' is a dual mass flywheel. You may or may not have one of these.

Cheers, are they easy to replace, the pipe that is? If no dpf, I presume it will help with engine life

You don't need to replace the pipe, just take out the bottom banjo bolt and dig the filter out of the end of it - it is tiny! Trouble is, to get to the bolt you need to remove the CAT as it is behind it. So remove the heat shield (about 7 small bolts around the edge) - should be do-able on a non-DPF engine without having the remove the radiator - then release the top and bottom exhaust clamps (a pair of the proper pliers helps here!), undo the two mounting nuts and drop the cat off. You will then see the banjo bolt at the bottom of the pipe - unscrew it (10mm allen IIRC) and dig the filter out.

The filter, with size comparison 1p piece!

Cheers for that, no wonder it gets blocked, what were they thinking! Not sure I'm up for all that dismantling, might have to pass that job on :-( might have to do the service, then in winter, when the vans not in use at much get someone to do that bit

If it's anything like the 1.4 HDi the cat is easy enough to get off, if you can service the engine yourself you can certainly remove that daft oil feed filter too. To give you an idea, I pulled the cat off our 1.4 more or less for fun, just to see what sort of state it was in (it was fine) and to remake a slightly leaking joint. Heat shield took less than 10min to remove, most of the bolts don't have anything to sieze into if that's what was worrying you as they're just threaded into pressed clips that hold the 2 halves of the cover together & the clamps holding the cat and downpipe appeared to be stainless.

Hopefully it's as easy as ours was, and satisfying to see that useless chunk of mesh sat on a tissue afterward I'd bet.

Thanks mate that's good news, I'll have a look at it, if it ever stops raining! And see what's what.
Richard above mentioned proper exhaust pliers, what are they?
Cheers everyone for all your input, I will get round to it soon ..... Promise!
