Thanks elma - but my confusion is I am not aware that the V6 Exclusive was ever sold without air-con, so how would there be a belt length for no air-con compressor ? I think there should only ever be one length of auxiliary belt for a Xantia V6 ?

Dayco fine, quite likely OE. service.citroen lists 1622mm with AC which is the first link; the second shorter one is for non-AC cars.

have a look here

The belts listed for various brands of car, maybe they use the non aircon version.
Gates say the 6PK1623 fits ES9J4 Xantia from 1/97 - 4/03 and is with aircon. Thats first link again :) .

Thanks both - the first belt it is! I'll get these on order while today's sale is still active. One of the track rod ends is temporarily out of stock but I'm in no massive hurry - whether it takes a few days or a week doesn't matter to me if it saves me a few ££ and I get known good brands.

I meant to say as well the Meyle HD recommended earlier in the thread are apparently very good. The Volvo owners forum is full of praise for them and they are what I intend to try for drop links next time.

I've been warned to watch out for fakes though and make sure they come in a box rather than a bag, I think that was from someone in this forum.

Right, there seems to be some confusion about the size of track rod ends on carparts4less. #-o

These are the two that are recommended based on my number plate for left and right:

http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/C ... 4b8&000349

http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/C ... f04&000349

However I'm worried about "Outer Thread [mm] M14x1,5" - isn't that the smaller size track rod ends on small engined Xantia's ? I then tried putting in the license plate for my old Series 2 1998 Xantia, which as far as I know should use identical large size track rod ends (all V6's use the large track rod ends ???) and I get different parts!

http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/C ... d23&000349

http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/C ... 5e9&000349

These ones say "Outer Thread [mm] M10x1,25, M16x1,5" !!! #-o

When I do a number plate look up on Mr Auto for my S1 car's actual number plate for the same parts I get matches for both M14x1.5 and M16x1.5 with nothing to indicate which is correct...

I'm sure the larger size is correct, good thing I spotted this error. Anyone know for sure that Series 1 Xantia V6's also use the larger joints, and that M16x1.5 is correct ?

Always such a chore to order parts for Citroen's and be sure that you are actually getting the correct parts for your car, I was minutes away from clicking buy... :(

The plot thickens ? Looking up my VIN on service Citroen gives:

Image

For item 2 there seem to be two alternatives ? What does the "And Age >= 3" mean ?

Edit: Just looked up the VIN of my old S2 1998 V6 on service.citroen.com and it gives the exact same part numbers as the S1. So as I thought, they must both be the big M16x1.5, which means the carparts4less listing for the S1 is wrong when it lists the smaller size. Grr.

Age greater than or equal to 3.

get a vernier gauge on the exposed thread of the fitted ones to find the diameter.

Or just order M16 x 1.5
firstline
Meyle

M10 x 1.25 is the thread size of the locknut on the actual balljoint so it's really confusing, look at the Meyle advert for a good example.
Mr auto are interchanging the track rod end thread size with the balljoints thread size between adverts so are really confusing.

You are actually after M16 x 1.5 between track rod and track rod end with M10 x 1.25 "nipple" to lock it to the hub as far as I can tell.

i.e. these two
Left
Right

I know what a greater than sign means. :rofl2:

I just don't know what that means in the context of identifying a part number ? Age of what ?

I don't have a vernier gauge unfortunately. I keep meaning to buy one but it hasn't happened yet...

Yes that's what I think. The M10 is for the bolt through the hub, the adjustment thread is either M14 or M16.

I had a feeling it was something to do with warranty repairs. As in it's a cheaper part for in the first 3 years when they can't charge you for it. Not sure at all, just my first thought.

For driveshafts and steering racks, the >3 years get recon assemblies.

Right, that's everything ordered.

2x lemforder track rod ends, 2x lemforder drop links and a Dayco auxiliary belt, £70.72 including VAT and delivery. Not bad I think.

Hopefully the parts will all be correct. :-D Thanks everyone.

The parts for older cars are cheaper than the 'original' parts - and presumably lower quality.

So Simon was it Car parts 4less (ECP) or Mr Auto? My ECP Lemforder drop links came in a sealed Lemforder bag. Looks proper?
The bottom ball joints came in the box from same supplier. Buy these items when they are on the big specials and put them into inventory. We are keeping our cars right? :-D Bottom ball joint, a tenner and drop links 16quid.
