That's the next oil change on the menu now. Chris told me it's due in May, which is rapidly approaching!
I'd might as well do it for you whilst it's here Davie, as long as you are happy with Costco trade oil...

Sadly, no progress recently. Due in part to the need to do other things, the X Rally, a very busy week and now me falling very poorly today. I hope that I'll be well enough, and the weather will be kind enough, to allow some serious work this weekend...

This is how my life goes and why I had to stress the clutch job may take some considerable time...

I know how chronic conditions go Jim. There's days I can do things, and days I'm virtually housebound, and can't do a thing. If that happens the days I'm supposed to be working I phone them and tell them I'm not coming in unless the are really snowed under, then I will go in, but won't do the local go like a red arsed bee orders, I will only do the longer ones which aren't nearly so hurried and stressed. I am not asking you to change oil and filter, but if you do it you will not hear me complain. As for the oil, I would be putting in a cheaper oil probably 10w40 semi synthetic which may well come out of asda, tesco halfords or the like. I have never had a problem with any of it yet, and is what went into the 107. Kerri had halfords 5w30 halfords vauxhall spec oil to put in the astra, cost her £41 for the 5 liters. That is what it says in her handbook. I would think the activa would be quite happy with 10w40 semi.

I don't suppose you fancy respraying it in dante red, or even the newer shade wicked red while you are at it? [emoji13] [emoji41]

Recently Asda were doing their own range of oil at a reduced price. The 5W40 fully synthetic was £14 for 5l. Even at their normal price (£20) it is good value. I don't know who their supplier is though.

It'll be the same oil as I use in mine Davie... Right, that's a done deal

Thanks ever so much for your understanding of the situation... You and me are in very much the same sort of boat, albeit for different reasons

That's the one thing I don't do Davie. I can't paint as I'm allergic to it...

Yep, different conditions Jim, but the same unpredictable results of bad days, or even weeks occasionally. I have to be laid back about it and just be oh well [emoji90] happens!

I've put 10w40 in every car I've owned over the past um 10 or more years maybe 15 years. Never really had any great issue with it but part of that, and ignoring these 'specified' ultra-low ash (high expense??) is down to near religious changes, ignoring any manufacturer fantasy intervals. ;)

Any luck or suchlike with the fan ? :)
Andy.

Same here.. Been using Costco's Chevron 10W-40 diesel oil in 20l drums in all my cars for years now...

No problem at all..

Before that I used Comma oil from our local factors...

As log as it meets the specs. I'm happy...

All this talk of pizza makes me what to cook one from scratch this weekend. In fact, that's what I'm going to do. A nice healthy veggie one :D

When the air con is off it's behaving itself, when air con is on it goes on and off about every 20 seconds. So i have decided it's "normal" behaviour and use the air con as little as possible and use the natural air con, open window lol

Perfectly normal for the AC Davie - on earlier cars they used to run the fan all the time, but now the ECU cycles it on and off depending on the AC pressure - saves a little bit of energy!! I just leave mine switched on all the time and don't worry about it.

Oh well I will stop worrying about it and use the air con when I want or need it.

As I say, it's how Val's Vauxhall Suzuki behaves when the A/C is on...

Anything to get those fuel consumption figures shaved!
Do hope the fan circuitry includes a soft-start for the fan, as start-up wear is significant for brush-equipped motors.
Dual-speed slow running would be preferable if fan needs to produce useful cooling every so-many seconds.
