Yes Paul - slides forward to your pre-programmed memory position (1 or 2) and slides back when you turn the ignition off, (although it could do with a neon sign built into the back of the seat to warn rear passenger of STOP, ♫BONG♪Imminent Leg Crush ♪ BONG ♫

The plip option then lets you either have just the driver door unlock on opening or all doors - I guess another safety feature if you're somewhere dodgy, so the masked bandits can't open your car doors whilst you make your escape!

And last, but not least the Handbrake option we were originally talking about - when it is enabled of course! :-D

Thought it must be. I don't remember enabling and, equally, I don't remember it in action when I first bought the car. I have made a couple of changes which may have had knock on effect. I lowered the seat (I was fed up banging my head getting in and out) and I stored the seat position in the memory.

The seat moving is nice at times but, as you said, it makes no regard for what's behind. This is a problem at the moment as I have both rear seats down and I fear for their integrity when the front seat pushes against it.

Anyway - back on topic. I can't decide whether to switch the auto brake off as it's so handy. Actually, you know I'm not even sure it is switched on. Maybe it's off and I like it that way. Must go and check...

Ok paul.. I sort of like the seat move but there isn't anything behind me or if there is its crushed and no longer a worry lol

I will have another 2 hours later and maybe if I can't enable the ' enabling of the choice of auto or not' .. I can tell diag I am replacing cables and it will turn the handbrake off for a while ..

Yes - if your rear seats are down ALWAYS retract the headrests as the seat will go right back into rear right one and if left for too long will mark the leather (if you have that - can't remember). I always turn it off if I know I am carrying anything that needs the rear seats down (that's where I really miss the older Hatchback - you could get so much more in!

Back to the handbrake - I always manually release it (even when it's on automatic mode) when at lights as I don't like the 'pull' using the clutch and the accelerator that you get when in automatic mode - to me it's just like pulling away with a normal handbrake left on! - and that just adds extra strain on the clutch which let's face it nobody wants - so another reason why I never use the pedals to release it.

Anyway time to get on with that Diagbox uninstall and reinstall now!

Well I unchecked the driving position opening option and that appears to have stopped it moving backwards although it now lowers to the lowest position which is much better. Maybe it also did that before? Not sure and I've only switched the engine off once so far.

As for the parking brake (see what I called it there?) there's no option on my comfort menu so I don't know what it's doing.

I think cit have switched it off like mine. So you can't have a manual parking brake .. which is very annoying if you want your back brakes changed in a local garage ...

Lighty, in another thread, wrote:You can repair these systems without a computer, so long as there are no battery issues during the process, so make sure the battery is In good condition before you start.
I know many garages don't have the correct equipment, so do it this way..
This can only work on the early cars with the external handbrake box in the car, the latest Picassos have calipers with the motor built in, so Tec equipment required, same as VW..
All you need to do is release the handbrake manually with the ignition turned off. The car will beep frantically at you at first & then periodically whilst doing the job. Don't start the engine until everything is reassembled , as the handbrake will come on once you switch the engine off again.
Once the brake is released, carry out all the repairs, calipers need to be wound back.
Once all is rebuilt, pump the brake pedal plenty of times, to get the Pistons back out & pads realigned /seated .
Then you can start up the engine, and manually apply the handbrake.
All should perform normally from this point.

All you need to do is release the handbrake manually with the ignition turned off.

Using the lever or using some manual emergency tool way..?

if you have any luck I would be half interested in your handbrake power measurements for no good reason..
mine is : 1086 Newts
Well finally back to trusty old 7.57 with no hitches! (holding breath).
My handbrake force is 1020 N with travel settings at 60.5 when applied and 12.0 when released.

Also one other thing, this car doesn't monitor the fuel filling via the fuel cap. Instead the BSI monitors it via 'use of vehicle movement info to detect fuel filling operations' mine is set to 'yes' and the option for 'fuel filler electronically monitored' is set to no.

So I'm now wondering how it does that exactly- guessing it looks at when the car is stationary and detects fuel capacity increasing in the tank? I seriously doubt it uses my navigation to determine when I'm at the petrol station  .

It's in the manual somewhere on page120 ish? But basically turn engine off - handbrake goes on, then turn ignition on, keep foot on brake and push handbrake button down to release and hold it until light goes off on parking brake. When you turn ignition off that's when it beeps like mad at you as Lighty says!

sorry all what a spanner ;) handbrake is off and on as I please, without engine running! I read the handbook in supposed detail on Tuesday night but completely missed the override function!
so.. will change the disks and pads on Sat.. may get it retested at a local place on the rollers to see whats what.. if its ok then I should have an MOT sometime next week and all can return to normal. if not then we'll see..

It would still be good to configure the manual handbrake at some point, sounds like a few of us no longer have it..

a few numbers Marc
EPB travel 13.5 to 51 - which is 10mm less than yours.. makes me wonder if that's related to the problem.. when I was first looking at this, the actuator levers on each caliper were ever so slightly different.. new pads and discs hopefully will reduce the travel and maybe equalise it.. that's my (only) hope..

change subject.. the icons on my desktop have Diagbox, Service box and citroen service.. - these last 2? can I do anything or see anything with them? silly question but I am a newbie with this really

Diagbox puts those both on John at installation, they are links to the online versions - just delete them along with the web email icon it puts on (depending on DB version) as you'll need an account to log into those. Watch out if you also have the offline version of DocBackup & SEDRE on the same Laptop - don't delete the wrong shortcuts!
