When it comes up with 'gearbox faulty', the 'Service' light also comes on. I don't know if this is standard or what ..

The service light with a message usually means a system fault and needs looking at - if it stays on then getting on a Lexia is the only way to diagnose it.

Normal - if it was a C4 Picasso, it would also put the handbrake and ESP warning light on as well for a laugh!!

Hi Richard /Marc and all, do you have any more info on how to get the covers off on a grand picasso to access the brake switch and loom ?
it's worth a shot just to eliminate it.

I'm booked in for a full service on weds 25th now so maybe I should eliminate this so I don't get screwed over on the gearbox :D

thanks again.

Thanks guys,
Just ordered that brake switch & loom attachment - original - ebay item: 111860470774 - £27 inc delivery
Hey I've discovered something new..
When the selector gets stuck in a selection, say 'R' and it says gearbox faulty etc..
obviously you cannot start the car as it's not in 'N'.
I've discovered that when it's stuck,
put the gear selector in 'N' even though it will still say 'R' on the display
then if you depress and hold in the foot-brake then use the manual gear paddles you can scroll between modes.
so if stuck in 'R', press the brake and pull the '+' paddle to go to 'N' & start up.
flick the selector to 'A1' and if it's now stuck in 'N'
foot on the brake and pull the '+' paddle again to go into 'A1'..
Then, when travelling, all of the gears work as normal auto.
None of this works if you don't press the foot-brake!
Ok it's weird but it seems to work for now..

UPDATE: just received and fitted the new brake switch & loom attachment..
It made sod-all difference.
Still on weds 25th I've booked in for a full service with Unique Citroen in hoddeston.
I managed to get a price of £195 through the citroen website.
I wonder if they will be charging for extras on top of that..
Any pointers to avoid getting stung?
Thanks Jon

I take it you are referring to their fixed price servicing Jon? If so, no - I use them all the time for my servicing and that's the full price you pay. They will usually provide you with a full health report too - with 'traffic light' colour codes against each area of the service. If they find anything that looks like it will need attention - they will draw your attention to it with a recommendation as to when it will need doing. They also won't do any extra work without asking you, should they find something that needs attention whilst doing the service. But as for the servicing - fixed prices are just that - to complete the recommended service due on the car. They also have 2 levels of servicing - genuine Citroen parts or Citroen approved parts - slight price difference - so you have the choice what to go for. Also the same for fixed price repairs they do now on common things like Brake pads, clutches etc.

As an example, I've had mine in for various jobs and each time the health check has brought up the front anti roll bar link - but they have told me on both occasions that it doesn't need doing yet as the free play is not sufficient to warrant changing it yet - so I can't knock my dealership at all for quality of work and honesty.

Thanks Marc, yes their fixed price service. It all looks too reasonable to be true - even a free courtesy car.
Still you've put my mind at ease. Thanks ! :D

I hope it all goes well. I think Citroen introduced this to try and win back customers with cars older than 3 years for servicing, as they were not paying the ridiculous prices for routine servicing. As you will see from the health check, they do quite a thorough check and not just an oil change.

As I mentioned before they should also check for ant software updates as part of the service too.

OK guys, got the c4 serviced today, ended up at 280 due to extra for diags for the gear problem and tracking on top, but that's ok.
And the diagnosis for the gear selector coherence fault is.....
wait for it......
The gear lever control itself isn't sending signals properly and so needs replacing.
The part number is 2400FP and the cost supplied and fitted will be £370.
I'm wondering if this would be an easy DIY - is this hard to get to ?
Any info would be great !

Basically it is item 1 in the diagram:
2400FP EGS Gear Control.png
The procedure to change it seems pretty straight forward - but when the gear selector is replaced, the gear control counter need needs to be reset to zero using a Lexia / Diagbox.
Counters....? sounds a bit ominous, I hope it's not one of those 'when it reaches a 1000, time for a new one'!

Looking on the bay, there is one here for £30 - they list the part as 96811352XT - but don't list the PSA number. I've checked at another online store in Germany and they have the same part number, so looks ok.

Is this a Picasso - as that part no only comes back against Picasso. It seems to be pretty easy - not even necessary to remove the wheel. It does say diag session required after to re-set the gear change counter. Part is just over £200, and book time <1 hour to £370 fitted seems a bit steep. I'm sure you could get a 2nd hand one and fit it.

^^ Great minds think alike....!

Indeed! :-D

What do you think of these Richard:
https://bartebben.com/online-parts-sear ... 1&groep=BG

They do a part lookup from the PSA number, then give you a choice - I guess the KM column is for how many Kilometres the donor vehicle has covered and you then bid / enquire for the part you want.
