Solved this in the end!! Was very very simple. Looked underneath with front wheels removed and the lower ball joint heat shield was making contact with a raised bit of corrosion on the disc at certain steering angles. Got a pry bar in there and bent it back a tiny bit and silence. Its a newish wheel bearing and ball joint in there so maybe a stone caught the guard or I had it so close to the disc that a bit of corrosion was enough to create the noise. Relieved it wasn't anything with the rack etc.
