Re: Xantos and Xantia madness
Now that I've changed the seats my side airbag light warning light is on (as expected). As far as I know activa seats don't have side airbags (or do they ). At least there are no markings on side plastics or on cloth... Is there a way to disable it with Lexia?

Re: Xantos and Xantia madness
S1 and very early S2 ones don't.
It should be possible to 'fool' the side airbag ECUs with small resistors as dummy airbags but I have no clue as to the correct value of resistor to use...

Re: Xantos and Xantia madness
I'm not home at electronics, but correct me if I'm not thinking correct... Is it possible that if I measure the resistance of side airbags in the old seats and then "fool" the ECU with the same resistance... I don't want to play to much with airbag ECU so that I don't accidentally trigger the front airbags

I used 2.2Ohm ones in my old Mk1 C5.....got them off the interweb

Re: Xantos and Xantia madness
Great! Thank you! So just wiring a 2.2ohm resistor between wires should do the trick...

What ever you do, don't do that - the voltage from the meter may be enough to fire the airbag.....xantos wrote: Is it possible that if I measure the resistance of side airbags in the old seats and then "fool" the ECU with the same resistance...

Re: Xantos and Xantia madness
Here's a thing that's baffling me at the moment with regards to airbags and pretensioners - I'm having issues with mine. Anyway, advice is always to disconnect the battery before messing with them. Over the weekend I discovered that the airbag ECU stores enough power to fire them in the event of the battery becoming damaged or disconnected in a crash.
Seems a bit irrelevant to disconnect the battery then, doesn't it?

Re: Xantos and Xantia madness
Yes, I wish to reiterate this most strongly... This is very likely to happen if you use an old-type ohmmeter (such as an AVO 8) as they do supply quite a current when measuring resistance. You may be OK with a digital meter of modern origin but the risk is just far too high...RichardW wrote:What ever you do, don't do that - the voltage from the meter may be enough to fire the airbag.....xantos wrote: Is it possible that if I measure the resistance of side airbags in the old seats and then "fool" the ECU with the same resistance...
Youtube has some airbag 'accidents' to focus the mind on just how dangerous these things can be if mis0handled.

Re: Xantos and Xantia madness
That is true but the charge held in the ECU for the emergency activation of the airbags will dissipate quite quickly and will fall to zero after a few minutes after battery disconnection. This is why you are advised to wait 10 minutes after disconnecting the battery.BenC5HDi wrote:Here's a thing that's baffling me at the moment with regards to airbags and pretensioners - I'm having issues with mine. I believe the charge is stored in a large capacitor and not a battery.

Who said you can't fit seats from estate to saloon??? And who said there isn't an estate Activa on the other hand?
With a bit help of angle grinder and MIG welder it can be done!
