But then again I used to put spotlights and go faster stripes on my cars in the 70's and they used to add at least 20 mph to the top speed of an 1100cc mk2 Escort :-D
Single or double stripe, i remember my dad buying me a pair of gola's definately sure those stripes didn't launch me off the starting line on sports day, they were only good for making high pitch noises at assembly time (the floor took a battering.)
Saw a teenager fitting a diy carbon thick stripe down the middle of a kia ceed, no doubt it's gettin bullied.

For what it's worth some always goes in my xm, 100ml to be exact and some in the rangey I drive.

It does help make the engines that little bit quieter I have found, not as quiet as good bio did but still worth it and mpg doesn't suffer from it and as I have a 20litre tub of fully synth two stroke I can spare the odd 100ml per tank :D
If you search freel2.co.uk and 2SO then you'll find a nice big thread about it.
A lot of landy owners are using it so it can't be that bad and in low amounts doesn't seem to affect dpf's and with the Citroen system it shouldn't be an issue.
So would 300ml of lucas semi synth low ash to 60L of standard dieselbe ok for the 110 hdi xantia or is that overkill and would Carlube mineral 2SO low ash be better suited, also is there any point in filling up with Shell V nitro+ if i mix 2SO with standard diesel or should i mix 2SO with nitro (only i have used shell nitro since owning the xantia. Lucas is £7 a litre and Carlube £4.50 a litre.

Cheers

Do the exhaust fumes smell any different with 2 stroke in.

On the volvo forums owners have said to try and steer clear of red 2SO, if your stopped by the police and have your fuel dipped and theres a hint of red in the fuel its probably more than likely for you to prove its 2SO and how do you do that at the roadside, anyone had that happen to them or someone you know...

Funnily enough I got pulled about 18 months ago for a roadside red diesel check and yes I was using red 2SO at the time. No problem at all, at 250ml in 50 ltrs its really very dilute.

I'm lucky enough (NOT) to be able to get a whiff of fumes from within the car without having to do the external sniff test only on a morning start though, will have to contact fire services and see if they will fit a carbon monoxide detector in the xantia after all I class It as my second home. Going in for an MOT next week and service so will remember to add it onto the "List of things F00ked up with my Xantia" and hopefully the specialist can cross them off the list as fixed.... [-o<

Thats a good bit of tosh and scaremongering!

When your tank is dipped they couldnt give a flying flip-pot what colour it was, they just test for what the stuff is and that its duty paid stuff. IE if its veg or road diesel they will be fine and be on the way. If its red with the correct chemical taint to it then your in trouble.
2SO is used in mopeds up and down the contry and i've yet to hear of one of them being done for fuel duty avoidance!

I would say 100ml per 20litre should more than do for most people but its whatever each person feels comfortable with spending on their car, as it does increase the cost of each tank fill :)

On your engine like my xm it won't do any harm at all Stu. On more modern ones with dpf's you have to be careful it won't create to much soot for the dpf but even in a psa engine id imagine they could take quite a lot before causing issues over many tank fills due to the way they mix in Eolys fluid and work that with the dpf as well to clear it out.

Stu I've run so much horrid stuff thru 1.9tds over the years I was surprised they still ran when I sold them! Straight unfiltered waste veg, engine oil that was horrid, lhm, brake fluid, trams fluid....

The Bosch 1.9TD is great like that. If it can be pumped and is vaguely ignitable by compression then its happy...

Remember that Rudolph Diesel always intended his engine to run on anything but petroleum derived fuels.. He liked coal dust and peanut oil as good fuels...

Now there's a challenge - get a 1.9TD running on coal!

Rolling coal!!!

To be honest the biggest reason I have the xm other than load space to rival a merchant navy ship, is cruise control. It does plenty of miles so it's a god send and helps with keeping to speed limits as well.

To be honest I think the coal dust would have to be ultra fine to run even in fluid these days Jim :( don't think we could get it down to .5micron could we :( then it would be great as could even mix in a little water with it to keep the cylinder and combustion chambers clean as a daisy!
