Re: xantia mk1 ABS questions
The delphi one is equivalent to citroen 454543, which is for rpo after 06444. Does the early mk1 run a different abs setup then? Mine seem to be exactly the same as the one you bought. My RPO is 6555.

Yes, the very early MK1 is different to the later MK1 but the sensors are the same...

Re: xantia mk1 ABS questions
Now that's even more interesting. I had a very early sinker and replaced a sensor on it and I thought I just bought a standard MK1 sensor but it was years ago now. I recall I got it from GSF. Definitely worth checking though as I do know for sure the ABS ECUs are different.

Explais why it took a few attempts to get a sensor for mine, local factors had 3 or 4 listed and I just assumed it was mk1,mk2 and probably the V6/2.1 ones as they use a different hub. I'll probe around on servicebox shortly!

Re: xantia mk1 ABS questions
Excellent It will be good to have this absolutely definitive!
The V6, by the way, uses standard sensors as it shares it's hubs with all the 'big engine' Xantias (2.0TCT and Activa, 110HDi, 2.1TD)

Re: xantia mk1 ABS questions
RIGHT!
Servicebox part numbers
mk1 early (to RPO 06443)
96 113 241
mk1 from 06444
4545 43
MK2
4545 73
the mk1 changes seem to ALMOST line up with the swap to antisink/the facelift. There is no definitive answer though so that may be why you can get a facelift sensor on the REG of an earlier model. there doesn't seem to be a difference in the teeth count (48 teeth).
The hubs, as jim pointed out, all use the same ABS sensor.
Bigger engine models (2.1, V6, 2.0tct) and funnily enough the estate all use a different ABS block + ecu to the rest on the mk1 at least (will check MK2 shortly)
theres also a mounting bolt change at RPO 06523 (end of 1994) and again at 07392 (1997)!
which begs the question, what's different on the sinker for it to have a different sensor. it seems that the sensors change, and then theres a change of bolts 3 months later....

Re: xantia mk1 ABS questions
Well, it seems I have fixed it - the sensor must be the second one you mention there, the difference I see comparing them (and might also be the difference with the bolt too?) is the depth of the boss for the mounting screw.
Here's the pics snapped earlier:
removed:
so you can see the difference.
I rechecked the resistances and they're all the same so I reckoned the 'wrong' sensor might work if I could reduce the boss extrusion so I removed it and set about it with a grinding disk. Quickly ground it down to match the old unit and now it seems to be working fine - drove 25 miles there with the light staying off, and a quick emergency braking test on a damp road (no other road users mind) and the ABS kicked in and no further sign of the abs light.

Re: xantia mk1 ABS questions
Yes so the main difference between the early sinker and later mk1 might simply be the dimension of that boss. maybe the reluctor ring is a larger diameter on the later car and the sensor must be further out?
Here's how it sits now:

Re: xantia mk1 ABS questions
Glad to see you fixed it cheaply!
Will have to find a way of seeing if the shafts are different as servicebox shows nothing to me except part numbers, it doesnt list shaft sizes! It is however the only logical explaination. When i've got the wheel off next i'll snap a few pics see if theres anything glaringly obvious. Maybe the shafts were bigger on later models
The bolt looks exactly the same so i'm guessing the change was to make it fit better with the longer sensor, maybe the 13mm bolt is further along.

Re: xantia mk1 ABS questions
I can certainly measure the cv diameter on my spare drive shaft. If I recall, there was a change in the number of teeth in the reluctor ring from sinker to anti sink or thereabouts. It might correspond to the possible change in diameter?
