I like that Mick 😀

Nothing much from me today, been slaving over a hot stove and generally catching up with domestic stuff but I did get out for a short run this morning and pretending to be a train along a stretch of disused railway... Imaginatively called 'Railway Walk'...

The old signal post is just one of a few artefacts still in existence at the Paggers end of the line... It controlled movements into the former goods yard on the left of this picture - now allotments - and the passenger station a bit further along.

There's quite a lot of it still visible back towards Wolverton, including a fine bridge across the canal... I must grab some photos next time I run along it...

Took inspiration to saw up a couple of bits of wood, and get out some left over oil paints to create this rather pleasing cheap and cheerful artwork for the fence! :-D

Pulled the curtains this morning to find out that the Kingdom of Fife Airforce had downed a Chinese balloon outside my house.

IMG_20230205_084110.jpg

Honest. It was there. Not set up.
Just waiting for the first bus to pass and squish it

It was last seen heading in the Leven direction having evaded the bus and other traffic.

An orphaned Road Closed sign with his friend, a very confused Diversion sign 🤣
20230206_134414.jpg
There was no sign of a closure or a diversion, so I guess these signs had been overlooked... This wasn't the only set of forgotten signs. There were several more... It was causing a bit of consternation and it all smacks of sloppiness, a lack of pride in the job and a pure 'can't be arsed' attitude... Sadly, around these parts this is all too common and these temporary signs can be left hanging about for weeks.

Even worse, i could see no sign of what the road may have actually been closed for 🙄

Although not feeling quite 100% today, I couldn't resist a short bike ride in the glorious sunshine 😊🌞 Although I'm feeling better for it I currently have the cognitive skills and short-term memory of a demented goldfish. Expect very little of worth from me for a while 😂

Fingers crossed I'll be back to what passes for normal in my world fairly rapidly 🤞

Man with claimed poor short term memory better at not forgetting road signs than road maintenance company! :rofl2: I think you sound to be doing ok, but best wishes for quick return to 100% :)

It has been proven that goldfish have a memory duration of (at least) three months. Scientists taught some goldfish so that, when they swam through a ring suspended in the water food would then be dropped onto the water. Once the goldfish had learnt this the scientists removed the ring, periodically putting it back into the tank, and the goldfish would swim through the ring and head straight to the surface. Even with a gap of 3 months (since the last time the ring was in the water) the goldfish would swim though it and head to the surface.

Goldfish also have the widest visual acuity known of all creatures. This means that they can see further into the infra-red AND ultra-violet than any other creature (some others may be able to see further into the infra-red while others can see more into the ultra-violet ranges, but no creature can see further into both than the goldfish).

Mine is similar Peter, no trouble remembering stuff from school and earlier childhood, but anything in the last couple of months is always a real struggle although it does seem to reappear once it's a year or so old!! I think we must develop an input buffer as we age which holds stuff back from proper storage where we can't recover it from.

If I cannot remember something from more than a year ago it usually needs some sort of trigger to bring it back, once the correct trigger is hit I find I can remember it all but couldn't locate it in the mind without the trigger!! However you can try as many triggers as you like for something that happened a few weeks ago, even tell me word for word and I may still deny it ever happening!! :-D

Ahh, but I did qualify this by comparing me to a demented goldfish and not one with full fishy cognitive skills

Seriously, that's interesting stuff :)

 Thanks Matt :-D

Mick, Peter and Steve: my long-term memory is rubbish too... Very little recall of childhood, a bit from my teens and then big holes from my early 20s up to the not so distant past... Tragically, I remember very little of my children growing up...

What I do remember is very random...

That and face-blindness... I frequently have difficulty recognising good friends if I've not seem them for a while or see them out of context...

Happily, there seems to be plenty of room for new memories and this has been the case since about 2015'ish... The holes are now a lot shallower :D

I know what's wrong with my head and the root causes but that's not for a public forum...
