It's the oldest iron bridge (1810) in the country still carrying traffic on a classified road open to all traffic Peter, the B526... A big feature of our little town ;)

Although the Telford iron bridge is older it no longer carries a road open to motor traffic.

Ours had a 7.5T weight limit on it or several years but late last century much work was carried out on it using carbon fibre to strengthen it and now, although they're discouraged from doing so, it can happily carry full-size artic lorries across it :)

Oh right, even better. I've walked across the Telford and it survived that. :-D

Noticed during my very cold morning run today... The wind is still cutting like a knife  🥶

Intrigued to see the Paggers branch of the Yellow Car Shop has a brand-new sign...

It's not come out well in the picture but it's a proper old-fashioned traditional neon sign :D

I didn't realise they were still being made... I'm pleased they are as I love them :)

I wonder what the gas is to produce such a striking yellow? Sodium perhaps but then it would need to be heated and vaporised to work in a traditional neon sign... I must investigate further... I'll try to get a better picture of it if I can...

I worked for a sign-making company a few years back who had a neon sign subcontractor who provided the neon tubes and electrics. May have been Ellis Signs in Gateshead, as was the company I worked for.
They appear to still be making them.

Steve, ask them please which gas gives a yellow light ;) I've not managed to find out for sure yet... Good to know they still make them as a world without proper neon signs would be a poorer place...

There is also Electro Luminescent Wire which does a decent imitation of "Neon" lighting.

While browsing around this morning Jim, I came across this site which has some info on the gases used in Neon lighting:
