A hidden, rarely photographed, viaduct on the East Coast Mainline, but if you know the code it tells you exactly where it is.

It had been on all night when I saw it but being a good old LPS it will start off dull red as the 'Penning Mixture' of gases get to work to warm the sodium and then it'll glow that lovely bright yellow for the rest of the night :D

Interesting you should say that Neil, our famous Iron Bridge dating from 1810 and the only one in the UK to still carry a classified road across it (the B526) has a couple of vintage lanterns of a very similar pattern to those in your photo in the middle of the two parapets and they look quite yellow.

I'm almost sure they're LED now but faked to look yellow... I'll take a look next time I run across it - I do most mornings - and get some photos but not tomorrow as I'll be running a half marathon deep in MK :)

A Bristol F2 Fighter which is part of The Shuttleworth Collection housed at Old Warden airfield. They hold a summer open evening with a classical music concert, fireworks and an air display in which it usually features. We have been on several occasions and love it, but obviously not this year!!

I thought you might get it but the programme is definitely worth a watch.

They covered such a lot of interesting items, from the airfields/ bomb stores/decoy airfields of Caithness, the role of aerial photography in the search for the Bismarck, the worlds biggest factory in its heyday now gone without trace (Singer (sewing machines not cars)) on the banks of the Cylde, the changing landscape of the Highlands due to Hydro Electric schemes. I lapped it up.

Just like the topiary pig....driven past the entrance loads of times without realising it was there, the Belhaven Bay practice trenches I had no idea were there in spite of being in the Dunbar area dozens and dozens of times.

Is that Alnmouth Viaduct Neil? Had a lot of trouble tracking it down but I discovered that ECM7 is the section of line between Newcastle and Scotland so I guessed at Berwick, looked at a picture and it wasn't the same, then tried Alnmouth and it looks similar but I'm not totally convinced? :-D

Yes thats where it is I'll have to look it up on the spreadsheet to see what they officially call it Edit -spot on it is officially Alnmouth Viaduct. Its a listed Building Built By Robert Stephenson. Its 18 Arches and really a bit OTT for the relatively small at that point River Aln.

It is off the road and a trudge across a field. I didnt even realise it was there because its a bit hidden from the road, and it was only when we were up at our high vantage picnic spot I saw it.

Another Bristol Fighter, a bit more recent.

I did think that they had spelled it 'Fyter' though.

The redevelopment of this place which I saw this morning on Gardeners' World is absolutely superb. Peter Latz created something with former workmen from the plant and their families, using materials on the site. The plant wasn't demolished but remains as an important part of the scene.
