I like that one Neil
I can show you the 'gubbins' of a low-pressure sodium light but mine is currently in storage in the attic... next time I'm up there I'll take some pictures...
I can do a video of it coming to life if you wish?

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
If you have a video editor that speeds it up a bit . I've watched and posted up one warming up from you tube in real time and paint drying is more exciting. Speed it up to about 20 seconds and it could get a few watches from the FCF faithful
I have high hopes that this is a proper sodium one...single post in Wooler and it appears to have one of the "more-normal" LED jobs underneath for some reason.

At last the Dahlias are coming into their own:

Ohh, that's lovely Mick One of my favourite flowers and one I'm always on the lookout for when out on the bike... I'm wondering if it's been a good year for them? I've seen some gardens full of some very gorgeous displays recently :~D

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
My father used to grow Dahlias and Chrysanths for showing and he exhibited at Chelsea a few times. Sadly he was over enthusiastic about getting me in the garden and as a result I turned against it for 50 years. I've just started getting into it and those Dahlias are my first attempt at copying his old methods! Quite pleased so far but a long long way to go!!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
My paternal grandfather was a master seedsman and used to work in a nursery specialising in peonies... He bred a number of varieties and I still have two of his in my garden to this day...
My dad was a very keen gardener and a good one too... Sadly, he never passed his green-fingered genes to me and I'm hopeless around plants... I can grow strawberries for jam and a bit of rhubarb but that's about my limit... Mainly because they look after themselves by and large...
Happily he did pass all his engineering genes to me

"You'll remember me when the west wind moves upon the fields of asparagus
You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky as we walk in fields of green"
....as Sting didn't sing it.
There's always been a bit of Asparagus grown 'round here, but they must have signed a large supply contract recently as there's now fields of it. The next field in the distance is full of it, as is the next, as is the one you can't see between here and there, as is the field to the right you can't see, as are quite a few more fields around the area.
How many ways are there to eat Asparagus ? Cook it. Make soup of it. Erm.... any more ?

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I have a vague recollection of the competition to design those new pylons....... or I might have imagined that
In the past I have whiled away some time poring over maps working out where the pylon run starts, and where it ends Perhaps a sign of too much free time

Anyone heard of the new fangled T-Pylons? You may come across them if you live near Hinkley Point.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I did wonder whether the pylon reference (I think its 4ZY319) would be able to be traced as per the network rail bridges. Havent found any reference material yet to assist, other than one which you have to login to, no doubt with appropriate authorisation to do so more than being an over-curious member of the public.
