I went to the Isle of Wight for a day (to celebrate my cousin Ailsas' Boxing Birthday (we couldn't get there for her birthday proper)). I got a couple of pictures on the was out, and one on the way back. The photos were shot from the I-o-W ferry sailing from Portsmouth.

On my recent morning runs I've been taking pictures of our magical new town boundary signs celebrating our heritage :)
Keen as mustard!

This one celebrates our carriage making and mustard heritage. Once upon a time Taylors Mustard were based in the town. Their old site is now buried under houses...

:rofl2: :rofl2: We have a town sign celebrating that too

The sign is subject to some criticism locally as it looks more like it celebrates something else...

I'll feature it soon and you'll see what I mean :)

More fungi!

These are on a silverbirch stump in their glorious profusion. They smell wholesome and mushroom-ey, and are more creamy orangy-browny than the camera would suggest. Nature's feast, or nature's poisonous trick, I strongly suspect the former.

Identification would be welcolmed
They are proper mushroom size too, not tiny little things

Whwn I first saw them I thought honey fungus....many varieties of it and in general edible.
But this is what it most looks like, known as a winter fungus but fairly common flammulina velutipes or velvet shank
https://sites.google.com/site/scottishf ... lvet-shank
"Caps from these fungi are edible and are grown commercially in Japan, where they are variously known as Enoki, Enokitake or Enoko-take."

On a note of caution as ever with mushrooms, they throw in an easily confused poisonous one just for fun
Galerina marginata
I wont be picking them for my breakfast just in case :-D

Had an emergency call to deal with today, my friend in Elstree's parents are in their late 80's and live in New Milton near Bournemouth. Yesterday's storm had crashed the public footpath's trees against their fence and smashed the trellis panels off the top.
We duly shot down there and I cut back the offending branches and reinstated the panels. While I was there I took the opportunity to replace the tired battery in the house alarm system which I installed 15 years ago and sorted out some satellite tv issues, installed a new printer only to discover that his Dell pc has died of an extinct PSU!! So I've brought the HDD back to recover his photos and put them on memory sticks. The last job was to explain his never seen before warning light on his new Jazz. It was the tyre pressure warning on because all four tyres had dropped below 1.4 bar. Reinflated all and left them with smiles on their faces!! (the couple not the tyres bobbins!) So a busy day and I've come home to a pile oi parcels to deal with, mostly maps I expect but I think I'll leave them for tomorrow. 268 miles and all that work has left me with a thirst!!! :-D

I know that spot! I have ran past it many times back in the days when I had use of a caravan at the Hobourne Naish Caravan Park :D It certainly can get breezy there. One night I was staying in the 'van and the wind hit 83 mph

As promised, another of our town signs celebrating our Aston Martin heritage :)
is that a Mini?
is that a Mini?
Many think it looks more like a new-style Mini than the DB5 it's trying to depict

I tend to agree....

I didn't get the "Harry" bit until Mick dropped the "Pots" - haven't read or seen HP other than snippets here and there.

No, he isn't called Harry but if you look back a bit, he does have a Harry hawk too.

A couple over the road also keep raptors and have a huge aviary.

Interesting registration plates too:

Unusual to see a car park with 50% not white silver or black cars Steve!! I trust the other bird wasn't a Keith Harris hawk:
