Very little activity on POTD while the Advent Calendar is running it seems, so I thought I'd put up this peacock that took a fancy to me on a recent visit to our local medieval fort!!

Well done Jim/Bobins, 2 photos in one day is what I would describe as a flurry. I am, for my contribution today, going to revive one of my previous efforts inspired by the "moon between the two turrets" composition carefully engineered by Bobins.
I give you large chimney from Ryhope Pumping Station with an engineered Sun perched on the top, otherwise known as the "Angel of Ryhope"
My 1100th post has arrived so choosing a celebratory car has proved very tricky. There are so many 1100 options, many of which I'd be happy to use,but I had to choose one, so I have picked the one which I'd be happiest to own if I had to live with an 1100:
Good choice, Mick!
My first Mini became an 1100. A 1959 body (about the 500th off the line), bought in 1969 in Cheshire for £15, sprayed black, and fitted with a 1098cc engine, costing a similar sum. A little project while at college at Padgate.
Huge fun!
They were the days Chris! I bought an Austin Mini 850 reg 659 DON, as my first car. Sliding windows and a floor mounted starter button gave it its character not to mention its abilty to use half as much oil as petrol!! I used to be chased around by a blue haze until the head gasket gave up and I swapped the engine for a 997 cooper lump. Unfortunately I didn't upgrade the rest of the car and its life ended embedded in a beech tree which had been very inconsiderately planted on the outside of a 90 right in Rousebarne Lane in Croxley Green!! I claimed black ice!!

An interesting fact (well to me anyway) is that the 'mini type 'A' series engine started off in about '54 at 803cc in the A30 I believe and over the years grew to 1300cc, the 'B' series engine, first used in the Austin A40 in about 1949 started life at 1200cc or thereabouts ended up at 1800cc in the MGB, or at least a development of it, still looked the same.
Most cars after the war in the 40's and early '50s had side valve engines, I think the A40 was the first mass produced car that used an OHV engine. I learn't to drive in a nearly new A40 van in 1956.

Yes, I am paranoid, but am I paranoid ENOUGH?
Out amongst the stars, looking for a world of my own!
