Re: Picture(s) of the day....
That is a pseudo 406, Steve, but I have another proper one now so that may not be staying.
Can't help you with the Jersey one I'm afraid Neil. I did spot one in North Yorkshire but I assume that't been covered.

In my pic that starling was sitting on my C5 handbook, just noticed he signed it before he left.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Not much to do with French cars (other than I drove there in the 3008!) but here is an unusual view of Ben Nevis - it's clear in the Winter (well spring I suppose....)!! The mountain in the foreground to the left is Binneinn Mor - Nevis is further away, centre frame.

Excellent picture Richard, and reward for getting out and about in the snow!

REgards NeilAnyone been to Fort William?
I have many times.....never noticed this though, and never knew the story. You wouldn't think it was possible. I have posted up a video of a Austin 8 being put through its paces on some incredible tracks in the Lake District, but can you really drive a car to the top of Ben Nevis?

The hardy 1911 team, lead Henry Alexander Jr, the son of Scotland’s first Ford dealer, climbed the 4,409ft (1344 metres) peak and drove across some of the most rugged terrain in the UK.
The venture was used as a publicity stunt to show the mass produced American car was superior to hand-crafted British ones.

Snow art by Simon Beck.
Regards Neil
http://snowart.gallery/about_Simon_Beck.php
Simon Beck is the world’s first and most famous "Snow Artist". He graduated in Engineering from Oxford University but decided later on to leave his office job in order to become a cartographer.
In December 2004, after a day of skiing, he got the idea to draw a star on the small frozen lake in front of his place. His sense for orientation in combination with his passion for outdoor and physical activities inspired him to complete a snow creation. The day after, looking down fromthe ski lift; he was impressed by the result. After the next snowfall, he repeated the exercise by creating an evenmore complex drawing. Snow Art was born.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Not my photo unfortunately but something I was completely unaware of, a crinkle-cranckle wall.
Lifted in it's entirety from ARRSE.A Crinkle Crankle Wall in Bramfield, Suffolk. The crinkle crankle wall economizes on bricks, despite its sinuous configuration, because it can be made just one brick thin. If a wall this thin were to be made in a straight line, without buttresses, it would easily topple over. The term is thought to come from Old English meaning zig-zag. Suffolk has twice as many as in the rest of the country.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
A clever idea Steve and it looks like it works judging from the ageing of the brickwork.
We have in Birmingham a zig-zag bridge over the river Tame but it's not like that.
Incidentally that river was so polluted you could almost walk on it, it's been cleaned up and now has fish.

Two very interesting pics; I always thought that the bridge angles were to allow pedestrians to get out of the way of carts - or am I being Had - probably, yet again!

Here's another one Harry from one of your locals The now disused Telford Bridge at Gloucester, I've driven over this one many times before they bypassed it.

Hi Gibbo,
That looks very similar to the bridge over the Severn at Attingham park; but then same architect I guess, our Mr Telford.
Take care.

We have our own Wiggly Wall here, which we built a few years back to stop things falling down the hillside...
The middle bit...
And at the other end, on top of a concrete water tank...

Bridges often feature on POTD and from POTD acrchives I bring forward for today this...and another one from the Telford stable
...and the random link for today to explain its selection........"Great Canadian Railway Journeys" on the old firestick this morning and the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Ever wondered at which town the "last Spike" of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven in, joining East and West Sections?

A real work of art they are - Don't somehow think they would pass the emissions test here though. If they are Cummins diesels they are brilliant especially the two strokes.

Another work of art for you Peter. Spotted in Homebase Car Park wouldn't be surprised if the gentleman who got out of it, had that car from brand new!
