A picture I took on a recent bike ride and one I'm particularly pleased with...

I love taking pictures of churches... Especially ones with clocks and this one, in Sherington, is a particularly lovely one...

Continuing the theme of Churches, I'll be taking part in the Wiggle Steeplechase bike sportive on Saturday...

Hopefully I'll be able to snap a few on film...

Come on Jim, can't let you get away that piece of skimpy information....

It is after all the only church in the Country to be called St Lauds!!!

There's one other which is dedicated to the 6th Century French Bishop St Laud, but goes by the name of St Laudus in Mabe, Cornwall.

I wonder if that has a black-faced clock too......have to find out..

Regards Neil

PS Disappointment on the Black clock front...the Cornish one doesn't even have one :-D

Gosh  Never knew that! In fact after living only a swallow's flight from the village all my adult life and having ridden (and driven) through it countless times it was only at the weekend I deliberately went out of my way to find the church to add it to my photographic collection of interesting churches... It's well hidden in the village which is a shame as it truly is lovely and well kept too...

I know of a few other churches around here that are well hidden and off their respective village beaten tracks... I'll be hunting them down and photographing them over the next few weeks...

Here's one for you, known locally as The Cathedral of the Forest. People come from all over to do 'brass rubbings'

Surely the Wiggle Steeplechase should be run in Chesterfield!?

If it's off the beaten track churches you're want Jim, you could venture over the border into. Northants. & search for one of the very few remaining moated examples.

I do often stray into Northants and will be on the hunt for the moated ones Van, thanks!

My trips into Bedfordshire have reaped rich rewards too...

Marston Mortaine church has an odd feature - a detached tower!

On that theme, in Milton Keynes we have the 'Tree Cathedral'

Modelled on Norwich Cathedral...

I have run through it several times...

Just goes to show there is interest everywhere, and stories to be discovered.

On the detached towers front several interesting ones including your Marston Moretaine in Bedfordshire can be found on this collection which starts off with the leaning tower of Pisa and other Italian gems.

On our holiday to Norfolk we did come across "Little Snoring" in Norfolk but never knew of its detached tower other wise it would have been on the visit list. Also missed the red clock at Brancaster!!

This one in Herefordshire is quite unusual

That's got to be worth a ride out into an adjacent county just to see it :)

Ahh yes, so it is... They do both begin with H after all...

Actually that's a county I have never visited... Maybe I can plan something to rectify that...

It might just fit in with plans I have for some post-retirement activities ;)

Herefordshire is actually a beautiful county as are the people, only just 25 or so miles from here to Hereford and to the county just 9 miles to Ross on Wye. https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl= ... B0IowEwCg

When I was working in Birmingham in the 1950s the company had showrooms in Worcester and Hereford and I frequently spent time there standing in for the managers when they were holidaying or ill, I loved it.

We also bought cars, motor cycles and bicycles in Brum and sold them in the country branches so we made many trips down, often with a large motor cycle and nine pedal bikes on an Austin A40 Devon pick up truck.
