POTD bird club

Some of our common birds can often be tagged "just a". This pair for me are always a joy to see not "just a" sparrow, these are Tree Sparrows resplendent in their chestnut caps, and smart clothes.

You develop an eye for spotting them, not that common, and most sparrows you see will be House Sparrows.

Not astounding photography, but the point-and-shoot captured the fleeting opportunist moment without faff.

A remote village in the north of Scotland, likely one you haven't heard of until recently - it keeps appearing as either the coldest or hottest part of the country. Its on a beautiful road between Lairg and the north coast, some

of the best views in the country.

Not taken today though I'm afraid

Well not in Kingston!! My dreams have come true, a cash point for taller people! Image to give an idea of height, that is a standard size door to the right.
This would be i suspect absolutely useless to those with limited mobility, particularly those with upper limb restrictions and those who use a chair. I would hazard a guess that the large (concrete?) substructure infront of it is there to prevent vandalism/theft, mainly by means of vehicle.

Image quality of this is so poor that it's not so easy to tell what type of bird this is, I've really no knowledge of birds despite my concerns for wildlife around the globe, this however is a Pleasant mucker i believe 🤪 . Very unusual to see one near me being on the outskirts of a big city, looks to be a relatively young one going off it's size.

Nice pheasant there, catch it and Xmas dinner is sorted after you fatten it up. I think my cash point post should be moved to the rant section cos I can feel it brewing....

Water, but not flood water for a change! A bit of Willen Lake. Very much key to the flood management of Milton Keynes, along with the other balancing lakes spread across the city.

Super dark shadows, and vibrant colours, definitely maybe a contender when the Awards are given out at the end of the month.

Mmmmmm. Concrete  \:D/

I have a feeling I've visited this place in Berlin in the past.

Berlin belastungskoerper

It's a VERY large concrete block.

......The Schwerbelastungskörper (German: "heavy load-exerting body") is a large concrete cylinder located at the intersection of Dudenstraße, General-Pape-Straße, and Loewenhardtdamm in the northwestern part of the borough of Tempelhof in Berlin, Germany. It was built by the bloke with the funny moustache's chief architect Albert Speer to determine the feasibility of constructing large buildings on the area's marshy, sandy ground. Erected between 1941 and 1942 it was meant to test the ground for a massive triumphal arch on a nearby plot.
.......It consists of a foundation with a diameter of 11 m (36 ft) that reaches 18.2 m (60 ft) into the ground and contains rooms which once housed instruments to measure ground subsidence caused by the weight of the cylinder, which was estimated as equivalent to the load calculated for one pillar of the intended arch. On this foundation a cylinder 14 m (46 ft) high and 21 m (69 ft) in diameter weighing 12,650 tonnes was erected at street level.

Wow, Concrete Club off to a flyer!

The name Siemens on it is because The Northumberland Line’s signalling system will be manufactured and tested by Siemens Mobility in Chippenham, Wiltshire, home to the UK’s only remaining dedicated signalling and control facility.

It was right next to this signal box which is due to be demolished within the next few days.
