It's life Jim, but not as we know it!
Meantime downunder, we are not currently in Australia! Couldn't understand why everyone wanted a photo of this metal emu - got heaps of real live ones back home!
This may be a clue as to where we are - a "remarkable" sunset!

Whenever I see or hear that line, and I do often, I always think of this lyric from a great little comedy song...
'Star 'trekkin across the universe, always going forward, still can't find reverse...'

Even wetter here today and I was forced to adjust my route whilst running. Had to do the same on my bike ride earlier...

A bit further South than that Gibbo - and it's a fresh water lake. It's Queenstown in the South Island & I think the Swiss would feel very much at home here! The range of "hills" in the previous photo is known as The Remarkables, and the highest peak visible is well over 7,000 feet and higher than Mt Kosciuszko, the biggest hill in Australia!
We went for a ride on their chairlift - previous photo was taken from the lookout on top.

I never got down to the south island, drove down from Auckland through the north island but in general it was 'closed' out of season.Armidillo wrote: 03 Jan 2024, 19:06A bit further South than that Gibbo - and it's a fresh water lake. Re: Picture(s) of the day....
This is my first visit to the South Island - so far it's incredibly impressive! We had a 4 hour bus trip today from Queenstown to Milford Sound (on the West coast - we seem to have shifted from Switzerland to Norway).
Now it seems that Jim has been revelling in the wet conditions you are having - well even he might have had to call for mercy down here today! It was very hard to get any kind of decent photo because of all the fog and rain, but at least the wet weather got the waterfalls pumping!!
Edit - attachments seem to be playing up, but both photos I wanted to post are displaying.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
NZ seems to be a very beautiful place with lots of impressive scenery.
I can't compete. Just spotted a denuded apple tree beside the road, had to drive five miles to loop back to it to take these miserable photo's of the scabby apples left on it.
Beside a motorway sliproad well away from any housing but not far from where Alan Price grew up.
Looks very sorry for itself.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
To go 5 miles out of your way for the sake of a photo for this thread is surely above and beyond the call of duty - Neil will surely be very impressed!
And I think you are selling your photos (& the apple tree) a bit short - there's a lot of symbolism there! Just by the by, when we moved to Armidale (31 years ago) I used to take the kids out to pick apples from self sown trees on public land (roadsides etc), but they were usually affected by Codlin moth
.
My picture for the day - NZ South-West - young seals just as interested in us as we were in them.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I just found it fascinating that the apples were still there.
With regard to Neil, I'm wondering where he is lately. Absent since Christmas Eve. Hope all is well with him.

I PM'd him and have had no response so I hope it is just a holiday and nothing serious.

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

I found a hitherto unknown trig. pillar today...
It was well hidden. Loving the lichens growing on it...
The FB is present but sadly the bronze triangular top-piece, where the theodolite would mount, is missing
