Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Running a bit late with this one - out with the boys for a run before breakfast on Saturday (I'm the one behind the camera).
The bloke in the middle is in his fifties - the rest of us are in our 70s. All are, or have been, orienteers (note no sign of a track in the photo)!

An apology relating to Sunday 12th November 2023
This was due to responsibility difficulties as outlined here:

This was due to responsibility difficulties as outlined here:
Thankfully Armidillo all the way from Aus has re-started normal service today, and everybody will take responsibility for no repeat of service outages on POTD.Providing POTD with daily content is an important job to do.
Every FCF member was sure that somebody would do it on Sunday 12th November 2023 and indeed any FCF Member could have done it, but nobody did it. Everybody was complacent knowing anybody could do it, and somebody probably would. Unfortunately somebody on this hopefully isolated occasion didn't, but everybody was to blame because anybody could have done it.

POTD Named Brick Club
Brick of the day
If ever you come across any brick with a name stamp from any part of the country take a pic and post it up here. The website brocross has a tremendous database of such things and in particular this index can be searched with "find on the page" even when only a couple of letters on an old brick are distinguishable. The Joicey brick is from West Pelton in County Durham the Grange Villa Pit, with only really the "OI" being initially distinguishable on the example I found down at Swalwell on Monday this week.

The characteristic little square at each side of the letters can be seen in this brick here
That would be the Wallsend and Hebburn Coal Company Limited.
Wallsend & Hebburn Coal Co. Ltd., Rising Sun Colliery, Wallsend on Tyne. In 1908, the Wallsend and Hebburn Coal Company established a brickworks at Rising Sun Colliery, mainly to supply common bricks for the company’s own collieries. The bricks were fired in a 16-chamber Hoffman kiln, each chamber capable of holding 10,500 bricks.
The Rising Sun Colliery is now a Country Park just off the A19 adjacent to a large ASDA at Benton.

Where was that Jim? Never come across it and it must be close to me.
Mentions of Joicey are stirring some memories.

I was passing through Ferndown (in Dorset) over the weekend, when I saw these magnificent machines.
