Re: Should I change my spheres?

Lower suspension joint/bearing made my car do that.....later I got a "click" on tight corners at low speed.
I felt unhappy with the steering (felt loose) for weeks and kept saying there was something wrong (even if it had just past it's MOT).
They had collapsed totally.

What bearings do you mean, front lower ball joints? Are there any top suspension mount bearing like on regular spring cars?

I think Alasdair does indeed mean the hub ball-joints.

There are no top suspension bearings, the whole strut outer and hub rotates about the inner strut shaft which does not rotate. The top of the strut shaft is supported by the infamous Xantia Strut Top/Mount, these do give trouble but not with the symptoms you describe.

May change the ball joints as they are not expensive. I have the tool somewhere to remove them.

Do not here any knocking down pot holes like you would think if the ball joints had excessive play.

Yes I do....sorry my terms got all mixed up.

I had no knocks either, just a "loose feeling) on changing direction then later the click and it looked like this when it came apart.

I have drive American cars (new ones btw ! ) with worse steering than this had in this state :)

From the service.citroen parts diagram the C5 has a fairly conventional bottom swivel ball joint that appears to screw into the hub. It looks as though a special tool is needed to undo/tighten this.

Not long now until the 6 new spheres arrive.

How hard is the front middle one to change? Looks tight.
