That's a brilliant guide, I never thought to use a diode from a remote control.

You should add that there needs to be a decent amount of contact between the terminals and the battery. mine has a weird habit of "working", where the light briefly flashes. If everythings ticketyboo the light will illuminate for a second when you hold the button

Failing that if you can't get a key fob that works buy a cheap remote kit off flea bay wire it into the locking motor of either one of the front doors and hey presto remote locking will be restored. Probably best to wire it to the passenger side. I am considering this for my old xantia s2 as the new keyfobs available have very hard rubber switch covers that are so. Hard to press it usually results in broken keyfob switches. I have sent the fobs away to be repaired but the quality of the switch soldering leaves a lot to be desired to be perfectly honest.

Thread bump.

Well I have tried the above (mine is a one button key) and it does not work.

Check with a camera....IR LED works, new battery installed

I can lock the car with the button key in the lock, I can lock the car with the non-button key in the door , auto locks work on all doors.
I assume the alarm is not "active" like this ?

So....still struggling to get my single button key to sync

Does your car have an alarm? They were not standard on French spec cars (and I think were part of the deadlocking option that requires a 2 button plip).

Did you try the resync procedure as described on the wiki above?

If you have another IR key from a different car (even a 2 button one) you could try syncing that.

Alarm ?....well it has a dome in the roof....actually I have no idea if it does. I just assumed it would have as standard as it has a remote key and a KeyPad

Easy way to tell al is to take the battery off with it locked. Car will go ballistic. Otherwise you've got to dig into the nearside arch to see if theres an alarm there!

Or alternatively does it deadlock if you keep the key turned after locking with it? Think dl+alarms were only fitted together

Edit: Al the vin that the number plate links to seems to say it isn't alarmed.

I vaguely remember a thread some years back about a possible problem with water getting into the electronic IR receiver unit behind the dome. There are, to my certain knowledge, at least two versions (change-over sometime around 1996-7). As far as I can remember they are electrically interchangeable, but in the earlier design the electronic module clips into the back of the little access hatch, in the later design, the module is glued-and-sealed as (very definitely) integral with the hatch. Perhaps the design change was to fix the reported water ingress problem.
