Another tip. The saloon boot seal is larger than the estate. Yes I fid get that the right way round..couldn't believe it when I tried it. Try pm ing citroenxm, he usually has lots of xantia bits.

Had a lovely weekend away in Liverpool. Over 800 miles and only saw 1 R reg mk 1 saloon coming out of Speke. Gave and received a wave..obviously Xantia are as rare down there..Best run yet at almost 300,000. 894 miles before the red light. Currently 1045 with at least 60 left in the tank..cant wait to see what the mpg will be.

I thought it was a good run. filled up today at 1091 miles 74.93 litres which gives 66.1909 mpg.
The book figure i think is 65 liters for the tank and 62mpg.. I've had 76.5 litres in the tank before but never this good mpg.. in case anyone asks, it was brim to brim after waiting for the froth to settle and from the same pump 10 days apart.

I've recently acquired a nice early 1998 S1 TurboD Desire Limited Edition hatchback in Mauritius Blue. Not cosmetically perfect but a great example for it's age. And with only 118k miles and excellent provenance there's a good chance this will be with us for some time, earning it's keep and our runabout. I had a brief fling with a 1997 VSX hatch (2.0 auto) which I know is still run and cherished, and although I didn't rush to replace it (with another Xantia that is) I realise now - especially in the TD manual guise - what a very good car they were/are. I hardly see them now, and can only think of two others knocking about in Chelmsford - one of which is stationary (for several years IIRC) outside a house close by... Definitely time to buy!

Indeed - they have become very rare around Staffordshire. I saw one last month - a HDi SX and the first in many months. I'm starting to feel quite the eccentric driving mine around - which suits me fine

I have toyed oh so many times with letting mine go - in the main due to the road tax cost and the increasing likelihood of works required. I did 3400 miles last year after having the car SORN'd for the previous 2 years. However the insurance has come down significantly. I also managed to sort the reluctor rings on mine which swayed me to keep it for at least another year. I have some advisories now for hydraulic pipes - so I guess that will be the next deciding factor for me next year.

Hardly see any near me in Gloucestershire now. The only other one I see is my Dads black HDi. In fact we drove in convoy from Gloucester to Bath the other weekend and it felt like our own rally! A rare site these days to see two together. Sadly we didnt see a single other one.

Xantias keep reappearing for me! I seem to have one every other car. My recentish car history is
Xantia Td
Citroen C5 2001
Xantia Hdi 2001
Citroen C8 2007
Then i bought the Xantia HDi i had before the C8 back again. I'm sorry to say i use it as if it was still new. It does 100 miles everyday over rough cotswold roads, fast A roads and even farmers tracks. Nothing I have owned or borrowed can cover distance like an Hdi Xantia. Famous last words but there is no rust, it goes very well, excellent mpg and its very comfortable, i love it.

I used to think if something major breaks ill throw it away and buy something else. But these days i think it will be cheaper to repair almost anything on it compared to a similar bill on a modern car (thinking clutches etc) so have decided that as and when/ if it needs anything ill fix it and keep it. No molly coddling done here but at the same time I spare no expense in keeping it safe and sound

Hi all,

Seems everyone has chipped in to this thread. Judging by this thread Xantias will be around for a while.

Still liking my S reg Xantia 2.0l H.D.i. Sx, will keep it going for the forseeable.

I checked on 'Howmanyleft' website and there are only 51 of the 2.0l Sx like mine left registered on the road in the u.k., compared to 2010 when there were over 300.

Check how many of your exact car are still registered on the road at

https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?q=citroen+xantia

Heres to many more miles,

Cheers,

Steve

The problem with HowManyLeft is how the car is registered. they don't lump 2.0SX and Xantia SX together, mines down as XANTIA SX TD but similar cars have also been down as Xantia TD or just Xantia SX.

see they also have a 1.0t athena listed for a LOT of models

I fear that this disappearing act is because of the dredded air bag light flashing shame they wont let me publish the way to turn it off. just to keep them going for a few more years.
if this is an issue and your thinking of scrapping your Xantia because the steering wheel cassette is no longer available please PM me and we can let you keep your xantia passing its MOT for a lot longer and turn that dam airbag light off.
