Quite a nostagic spot, visual, auditory and yes.....olfactory :-D

Heard it before I saw it.....one of these chugging and stuttering along heading for the inevitable stall.

Image

next the nostalgic audio of probably 20 off the belt attempted starts......I like the one where you get that whine and whirr from the starter after the failed attempt. Course some of the atttempts resulted in faint splutterings, bit of heavy right foot to attempt to keep it going.

a few attempts of that nature, soon had the whole village pervaded with the unmistakable smell of unburnt fuel exiting the exhaust.

Have to give the driver some credit, he didnt descend into a Basil Fawlty, but after the first few faillures, he should have at least popped up the bonnet and got a tin of wd40 out!, checked his points distributor cap, and HT leads

A Gilburn Invader. It was undergoing some significant bodywork restoration as it was dressed only in primer and filler!

A brown one used to like locally but I've not seen it for several years now. May have been one and the same car now being restored...
Not so rare around here now as I spotted another out on my bike this afternoon! What's the chances of spotting two Invaders about 5 miles apart in as may days? Likely you can go years without seeing another except at shows...

That was normal for a Moggie Minor Neil, even back in the day!!!

Sadly, and I don't know what but whilst everyone seems to love a Moggie I never did and still don't... They have never appealed... I much prefer their big sisters - the Woseley/Riley 1500...

Ah, the joys of a pre-engaged starter motor...One kick from the engine and it disengages and spins.

My Mk I Metro had a starter like that and it was always a bit of a pain in the cold where it would usually cough a couple of times before catching. Always started just fine in the end and then ran absolutely perfectly, but you just had to accept that it would sometimes take a few attempts - did always seem to make my passengers somewhat nervous though...

6 million odd views on youtube! The Morris Minor sounded similar without the crackling and flames exitiing the exhaust :-D

Very nice tail lights!

The website does not really capture the spirit of the place. It is more like a 1970s breakers yard where they have not yet got around to removing any parts from the cars.

The scale of the place is impressive, as is the comprehensive nature of the collection, there are very few family cars of the 50s, 60s or 70s that are not represented (usually with mutiple duplicates). There are also a few more exotic examples.

There were lots of cars that I have not seen anywhere for 30 years, Vauxhall Viscounts, Jowett Javelins, 1940s Morris Commercial vans, Triumph 1500 FWD, and an Austin Metropolitan!

I took some photos, but the lighting conditions are not good, and I only had my phone. I may post some if there is interest.
A bit late, but I remembered to upload some photos. Sorry about the quality, but it is probably fitting for the state of many of the cars.

The number of photos is overwhelming, but it gives a sense of how the visit feels...

Wow! What a fantastic collection Mike :D

Really enjoyed looking at all those and will be revisiting regularly..

That must be a huge building. Shame though that have to display some two-high...

Would dearly love to visit myself....

It is quite a nostalgic experience, I think that about 60% of the collection is captured in those photos, but I had been wandering around for more than an hour before I thought to take any, then rushed back through the building catching as many as I could before closing time.

I doubt that I will get you to NZ any time soon, but maybe you could visit a couple of my favourite car collections in France?

Yes, It's a deal.. I'd love to do a bit of Tour de France spectating (and riding some of the stages) so maybe combine the two?
