Always plenty to read round on following a simple spot, and the SAAB 96 heritage, traces back to the SAAB 92 which had a pretty restricted colour palette in its early days.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_92
All early Saab 92s were painted in a dark green colour similar to British racing green. According to some sources, Saab had a surplus of green paint from wartime production of airplanes; "All the cars were painted bottle green, a colour that became something of a trade mark for Saab cars. The underlying reason was that the armed forces had bought large quantities of a green cellulose paint for camouflage painting. However, the paint did not suit the terrain and the entire consignment of paint was sold off. Saab bought it and that was why both the aircraft and cars ended up green."
Another interesting bit, and history seems to be beginning to repeat itself with TESLA their GIGA press in the 2020's, in the late 1940's the SAAB 92 went a step further with the entire body being stamped out of one piece of sheet metal and then cut to accommodate doors and windows.

If I were going to join Zel in Rover ownership this would be the choice for me, it presents me with a few interesting queries like what various knobs do but I love the inbuilt toolkit and the pre-emptive wooden shelf now suitable for a mobile phone!! :-D

And the 'B' in P5B stands for Buick, being the Buick V8 that was being discussed somewhere on a thread on here the other day.

An Amazon :D I owned its immediate successor for the duration of my tour of duty in Cyprus - the 144...

A very functional and tough old car :) Ideal for the rough old roads prevailing on the island at the time...

No, the PV544 came before the Amazon and the 144 after Steve...

A 1953 Riley RME 1.5 significant only in that it is the only car currently for sale on Car and Classic as of right here right now, that is painted Mallard Green, Black over Mallard Green to be precise.

Seems like only yesterday I was doing a Zel on one of those (head off and top overhaul) a local farmer had one together with a Merc drophead and a BMW 3 series in his collection, all oldies.
