I can't see beyond the general impression of shape. My first thought was actually a 105E Anglia but I dismissed that after looking closer at the rear lines. Can't decide whether it has a boot or not to be honest!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: I-Spy Classic Cars/Bikes-What have you spotted?
Dont think the exact ID will ever be established it was A Riley Elf, or A Wolseley Hornet. If it had turned off into Morrisons I would have pursued it and found out. Very very good condition shiny chrome wheel trims and sparkling paintwork in a nice colour scheme.
Definitely one of the two, elf or hornet.

Snap. My first thought as Anglia then I thought the rear quarter panel wasn't right.mickthemaverick wrote: ↑15 Oct 2021, 16:16 I can't see beyond the general impression of shape. Based on that then Neil, and a very quick picture search of both options, I would plump for the Riley Elf. There seem to be a lot more blue and white ones than Hornets so the probability favours the Elf!!

Is that the cops with a speed camera van in the lay-by?
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

Re: I-Spy Classic Cars/Bikes-What have you spotted?
It is indeed, and a typical speed camera "we can park any old how" bit of parking.
Not that particular spot, but part of a defense I pursued once, probably to the point of them getting sick of answering my questioning, but in reality they were loathe to answer the question...exactly where was the speed camera vehicle parked.
As it was it was itself providing a hazard on the road by being parked half on the verge half off and with a cycle lane marked on the road, nicely in an obvious door-opening hazard zone.
Probably wouldn't have cut much ice with the magistrates, but maybe the Speed Camera partnership couldnt be bothered to pursue it. Not really on, the speed camera vehicle being borderline illegally parked, and providing a hazard to cyclists using the cycling lane.

Re: I-Spy Classic Cars/Bikes-What have you spotted?
Good to know I'm not the only one who has successfully challenged a speeding charge on the grounds of an illegally parked van. In my case it happened in Redbourn Lane, Harpenden where I rounded a corner to be confronted by the camera van parked in a bus stop layby. It was clearly blocking the bus stop itself and on sending my photo of the van's position to the speeding camera people I was advised that they would not be proceeding with the prosecution!!

On a point of order, it's not 'illegal' to park in a bus stop per-se, the road signs and/or road markings that form part of the bus stop will define whether you or anyone can park there. In most cases, however, you can't park there

Quite right bobins not 'illegal' but against the accepted rules of the road, in this particular case the layby has both double yellow lines and no parking signs, while being designated as a bus stop! Rule 243 of the Highway Code applies.! :

Re: I-Spy Classic Cars/Bikes-What have you spotted?
Well I've clicked the shutter again this evening and captured a shadowy classic (in my view anyway!). A humble contender in the history of the badge, but brought a smile to my face amongst an assembled throng of others on tour for the weekend up here. Yes the subframes used to rot away, and in pre wheel arch liner days the wings were lucky to survive without occasionally flapping in the wind. Still plenty of affection from this armchair

One wonders what the Highway Code would make of this bus stop ? Perhaps you just shouldn't park where the shadow liesmickthemaverick wrote: ↑15 Oct 2021, 19:57 Quite right bobins not 'illegal' but against the accepted rules of the road, in this particular case the layby has both double yellow lines and no parking signs, while being designated as a bus stop! More humble than that bit of badge engineering in the 60's

MG 1100/1300.
atrocious front wing, rear floor and subframe mud traps. Vanden Plas version very sumptious but equally prone to galloping rust
