Come on its easy to join in. I just had a look at the Colour and Trim combinations here http://www.morrismarina.org.uk/colour-trim/

Had to go an look up Denim Blue Metallic....nice. Black Tulip for the Marina was not to my taste, although a good name for a colour, and it had its followers.

Find me an advert for the Ital with a bit of the usual BS slogans and spiel, I enjoy a bit of that :-D

Nice :D I learned to drive in one of her elder sisters... A 1973 1.3 Marina Coupe in Black Tulip...

Dad owned it from new until he saw sense and swapped it for a Renault 5...

I knew you had a "black tulip" connection Jim. So for completeness on ITAL Marina day on I Spy Classic Cars we need to see a black tulip marina with our own eyes :-D

That's lovely Neil :D The Marina Coupe was a good looker and cried out for some proper development... It still looks good today and as time goes by it looks better and better against the modern tat...

Dad's was just a base model 1.3 without all the bling of the 1.8TC in the picture...

I can still remember the registration... PYA 372L. In fact I can recall the registrations of most of dad's cars...

My friend in Elstree owned a white Ital HLS with a brown vinyl roof and a 1.7 engine. It looked a lot like this one: :-D

That's my spot which kicked it off today. 1982 Estate, looked in pretty good condition, probably in for a MOT last night and it was still there this morning so may well need some work. Just about escaping the legal requirement to have a mot and due to become Tax free from 2022.

Well first registered 1st February 1982, MOT expired 9 years ago so its probably spent some time in storage.

One of the more interesting or awful marketing phrases for the Marina was this

Beauty with Brains Behind It

I'll shove the BL Heritage films on development of the Marina on the Pickled Egg Video Show.

Seeing as it was an ITAL which I spotted today, here is a treat....a talk through from front to back of the rather quirky Morris Ital Brochure.

Stick with it there is plenty of enjoyment to be had as long as you don't expect too much. It is what it is, an informative talk through, and some nice pictures from the brochure which is a marvel of folding pages. The same chap has done a couple of Marina brochures, but too much to eat in one meal so I'll stuff them on the Pickled Egg Video Show.

Recommended...

In the first video the guy slammed the door and made a comment it not being good, what he missed was the door locks were 'zero torque' i.e. you didn't slam them you just gently pushed them and they closed without slamming.

There was quite a bit of innovation in the car at that time, including the through flow ventilation that he skipped over.

An awful lot of German propaganda about the wonders of VW and no doubt the rubbish BL at the time, the VW Beetle was designed in the early 1930s and modified every six weeks until the late 1970s...and never got it right. :-D
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.
