Its a 1989 Model VW Golf GTI Cabriolet. 1989 is bank in the MK 2 Golf Range and so that should be a MK2 but it isnt.

Thats because "There was no Mk2-based cabriolet model; instead, the Mk1 Cabriolet was continued over the Mk2's entire production run. "

So there is a modicum of interestingness in it, so I would call that a decent spot James, and I would have photographed it myself and lobbed it up here.

I did take a picture of a MK1 Clio which made it to the thread so yes its classic enough for me!

NewcastleFalcon wrote: 24 Jan 2018, 15:47 Well after a small amount of deliberation I'm shoving this one in here. Won the most interesting car in Morrison's car park prize for me, even took a photo of it.

Its an early Clio from 1994, and its yellow did stand out on a very dull Sunday, a prelude to a big snowfall a couple of hours later. Yes its pre-Thierry Henry and his Va-Va-Voom, and slap bang in the throes of Nicole-Papa.
from wiki Papa and Nicole-fascinating facts!

Surveys by Channel 4 and ITV revealed the series as the most popular car advertisements ever aired in Britain. In 1996, one survey found that Nicole was recognised by more Britons than Prime Minister John Major, Bob Hoskins or Chris Evans.[1] Renault was found to be the most persuasive advertiser in five European countries in 1994.

So where is Nicole now then Neil?

Well Gibbo the timing is impeccable for that question....did you know? In one of those unlikely coincidences I mentioned her yesterday, digging up an old photo of a Clio Mk1 in response to James' VW Golf Cabriolet photo and today July 4th 2020 is Nicole's 49th Birthday.

So I presume at some time today she will be blowing out 49 candles on a large gâteau d'anniversaire :-D

Not often I will be moved to photograph a Mercedes, but as well as the unusual colour the numberplate caught my eye.

CU6. the reg CU was used between January 1904 and November 1957. CU 6 must have been one of the first Cars in the borough in 1904. (obviously not that Mercedes! which is a 1975 Mercedes 220.). The CU stands for Caer Urfa which is an ancient name for the first settlement in the area.
Interesting colour!

These can be had for quite small sums these days, if the auction sites are anything to go by.
Save up for the brake pads, though.
