The thread lives! It was disappearing into neglected obscurity.

The VW camper has something appealing about it , and on a day like today at the carpark next to the beach this little Devon 2-tone just screamed summer at the seaside.

Just came up on my Facebook, an interesting thing, if only on terms of construction:

Of course not...bit of cheap...(oops forgot VW Campers are also overpriced whatever the condition)...fun on days with blue skies and fluffy white clouds reflected in the windows.

Is that a "Bambi"? Think that's what the Rascal based ones were known as (or certain variants as think a few different conversions exist)

This features the Autohomes Bambi and the Elddis Nipper based on the rascal.

The one in the Pic is a Romahome.

Never knew that Barry Stimson was the designer of the Romahome, I associate his name with the Stimson Scorcher.
Best known as the man behind the original Romahome, which set the standard for micro-motorhomes for decades, Barry’s concept started life on a tiny Honda truck in the late 1970s and evolved through various incarnations on Bedford Rascal and Citroën C15 chassis until it was thoroughly overhauled with a completely new look, again by Barry, on the Citroën Berlingo in the late 90s. Throughout, the concept of a glass-fibre monocoque body, moulded internal furnishings and a stepped floor to give standing room in the galley remained.

Campervans and motorhomes weren’t the only outlet, however, for Barry’s design talents. His name was equally well-known in the kit car world, where he was behind such models as the Mini Bug, Safari Six and Stimson Scorcher. And he designed boats, trikes, amphibian and tracked vehicles. He was never short of ideas.

Thanks Neil, I'd not heard of any of those! Always good to learn about something new! :)

This is proper Expedition/ Overland Adventure Stuff here. Will be traversing Africa shortly from Morocco Eastwards.
Had a decent chat with the chap who I probably mistakenly thought was from the Netherlands because his sponsorship logos were from Shell/DAF, but oddly also Gauloises (now owned by Imperial Tobacco and manufactured only in Poland):-D His vehicle had Austrian plates so I guess he was Austrian. Didn't pick up everything he said but an interesting random conversation nonetheless.

Looks a touch home made, its a six wheeler, but no doubt an eye-catching Camper worthy of a shutter click or two on a gorgeous fresh breezy blue sky day down at the coast.
