Unless you're living in Metropolis! I must admit, that I always forget to use it by the time I've found a spot - I usually know straight away if the car will fit or not. Takes too long to press the button, indicate, make sure you're not going too fast - and hope the bloke behind you hasn't nicked your space while you're still waiting for 'Nelly' to tell you if she'll fit!

All.
I completed fitting OEM (almost) front parking sensors to my C5 exclusive, but trying to keep the price down at the same time.

My set up is, OEM bumper harness, Ebay (similar to) OEM sensors, Peugeot 407 ECU, home made (3d Printed) centre grille sensor mounts & OEM side mounts.

Both the Parking ECU's, Citroen & Peugeot, have the same part number on them, but I think the software is different, as when I select reverse the two outside rear sensors are active at about 3 bars, and when I move forward the centre two sensors are active for about 2 seconds. I think that as the ECU is from a Peugeot 407, and the sensors on the 407 are placed higher in the bumper than the C5, the ECU software is programmed accordingly..

Now the details of my unit are:

Equipment part number 96 560 196 80
Equipment additional reference 96 638 217 80
Software version 01 45
Diagnostics e-mail 96 563 777 99
Calibration file number 96 732 001 80

So my question is, can I download and update the ECU software or can I clone from another, if so how on both counts? Or am I going to have to pay a Citroen dealership to do the same?
I have Diagbox 7.76 and a PC.

You're right about the 407 sensors Stu - they look like saucers in comparison - really ugly as they stick out! Sounds as if you are nearly there on this. Were the ECUs the EXACT same numbers - ditto with the firmware / software versions printed on them?
Regarding Diagbox - that's a tricky one! I haven't needed to try it, but you will need a dealer login and password for sure, as I think it accesses the online servers. It should be possible, but not too sure if it's possible to use an offline update for software, as opposed to configuration.

Hi Marc, yes (ish), I found a C5 one on a Belgium Website, and compared the photos of that one with the one on Ebay and they look identical, as for software I have no idea. Honestly I just did not think the software would be different!
I have just popped up to the Indian for dinner and played, with the suspension on intermediate both from and rear sensors behaved okay, and then they did for a while after that, but then once on my drive the right had rear popped up again, and the front when reversing up my drive, when the nose is low.
As for the update, I am thinking the same either a dodgy download from somewhere, and use the auto configuration option or take it to a dealer and pay the price, then looking back it would have been better for me to buy a genuine configured item for £185 ad not the Ebay one for £80 + remap........!!

Note to everyone else, Peugeot items are the same - almost.

Adding OEM Front Parking sensors

Post by Sloppysod »

All, you will see that I am fitting OEM parking sensors to my C5 X7,
Well I finially opted to buy a new ECU, hoping this would solved allmy problems I had with the Peugeot ECU. But now I have another problem, I thought I could just fit the four sensors, those on the front but appartently all X7's with front sensors have 6 sensors, and the system will not work without them all.
So now I need to know an approxiamate position of the side sensors, could one of you please measure, to the centre of the sensor, how far they forward from the top rear corner of the bumper and how far down from the top edge of the bumber it is at that point it is, and or, a photograph would be helpful.
many thanks

Morning Stu - no worries, I'll whizz out now and take a few photos for you. I'll take a few measurements too, so give me about 30 mins.

OK - so on the photo below:

A = 6 cm from the middle of the 'crease' where the bumper joins the wing to the bottom of the INNER black circle of the actual sensor, not the outer circle.
B = 23.8 cm from the top corner of the bumper, to the MIDDLE of the sensor
C = 5.3 cm from the middle of the 'crease' where the bumper joins the wing to the MIDDLE of the actual sensor (although the bottom arrowhead shows this to the side, so as not to crowd the sensor - but was measured to middle of the sensor).

And here's me thinking you were buried in wires and parking sensors and churning out 3D printed bumpers!!
