BSI and Non PSA CanBus Parking Sensors

Re: BSI and Non PSA CanBus Parking Sensors
it shows the type of connector
4V VE means it is a 4 pin vert (green) connector.
the number is the number of spaces in the connector, the V means the French word for ways as in 4 way connector & the last 2 letters are the (French) colour codes
VE=green
NR=black
BL=white
JN=yellow
BE=blue
GR-grey
etc, etc.

4V actually stands for 4 pins on the connector, and the VE is a color ... don't ask me which, don't know french that good ...

Thanks guys, (xantia_v6, Wheeler & Vborovic )
I was happy up to the early 1990's with car electrics, but modern electrics and the Citroen wiring diagrams, well, are not so easy to understand. However, now you explain it, I am used to the same systems of identification in my day job.

Re: BSI and Non PSA CanBus Parking Sensors
I fitted after market ones to my 406 and just wired them into the system and they work OK. Do make sure you get the sensors pointing in the right direction, because of the shape of the rear bumper that's difficult on the 406 as a result it will scream its head off at a clump of grass but allow to reverse into a wall.

If you'd merge 4V & VE together you'd get 4WE ... four wheel engine? ...

Really ?? I've used lots of different vehicle manufacturers wiring diagrams & find the modern PSA ones (Xantia era onwards) the best, easiest & most detailed ones I have ever used. When used as the 3 part diagrams they practically spoon feed you the answers to electrical problemsSloppysod wrote:Thanks guys, (xantia_v6, Wheeler & Vborovic )

Re: BSI and Non PSA CanBus Parking Sensors
I have got one of the cheap(est) parking sensor kits from ebay, and have mounted the sensors temporarily in a stick of wood to see how it performs.
It actually seems to work reasonably well detecting objects at a distance of about 1.5m and beeping continuously at about 30 cm.
The problem is how to connect it so that it will switch on when front parking sensors are needed. On the 308 CC, there appears to be a non-multiplexed signal from the ESP ECU to the roof ECU to prevent the roof being operated above 6km/h, so this signal could be utilised to enable the parking sensors, but the parking sensors emit a single beep when they are powered up, which would rapidly become annoying if it beeps every time you come to a stop.
Maybe one could leave the front sensors running all the time? Perhaps a better idea would be to have a button on the dash that enables the sensors for 30 seconds, so that they can be manually turned on during parking manoeuvres?

Re: BSI and Non PSA CanBus Parking Sensors
Isn't this the same as the boot locking after reaching the same speed? So you'd have two potential wire sources to use ...xantia_v6 wrote:On the 308 CC, there appears to be a non-multiplexed signal from the ESP ECU to the roof ECU to prevent the roof being operated above 6km/h, so this signal could be utilised to enable the parking sensors

Re: BSI and Non PSA CanBus Parking Sensors
My interpretation of the diagrams is that the speed signal for locking (from the BSI to the locking ECU) is multiplexed, so not available. I don't know if there is any useful non-multiplexed signal from the locking ECU.vborovic wrote:Isn't this the same as the boot locking after reaching the same speed? Re: BSI and Non PSA CanBus Parking Sensors
Isn't the Speed sensor activation only one way?
Move faster than 6 mph, doors lock........... slow down below 6 mph, doors stay locked!!
I think this would be a better set-up and it would isolate you sensors from the cars main electronics
Take live from to brake light switch to power relay, then add a simple 555 timer circuit so sensors stay on for 30 seconds (ish) after brakes are released. This way the sensors are only live when slowing down, parking or manoeuvring.

But the parking system will beep almost every time you put your foot on the brake.Sloppysod wrote: This way the sensors are only live when slowing down, parking or manoeuvring.

vborovic - "No one mentioned the doors, we're talking about the roof and the boot ..." - No but the roof and the boot use the same vehicle speed signal.
xantia_v6 - "But the parking system will beep almost every time you put your foot on the brake". - yes but for only a specified time and easier than trying to tap into the car data bus system and messing something up.

Re: BSI and Non PSA CanBus Parking Sensors
That's true, but the thing is whether or not the roof and boot can be used/unlocked after you slow down below 6 mph, and the doors stay locked ... or not ... for the boot, I believe you'd have to open the doors (if they're automatically locked), the roof should be another system which shouldn't operate that way, but be available in that case (since I don't have it in my car, only xantia_v6 knows the working principle)
