You're very unlikely to need an input shaft tube on T/D as it's a pull type clutch. The bearing is permanently fixed top the cover, unlike a conventional setup anddoesn't rely on the guide tube to,well, guide it. The other two things you mention sound like alternative terminoligy so should be ok.

Thanks Clutchman. The citroen garage included the input shaft tube in their quote, but then they also quoted for one diff seal but labour for two!!! I'll give the input shaft tube a miss then, plenty of other things that money can be spent on

How much labour to change 2xdiff seals? They take literally 2 minutes each once the box is out!

They quoted for 20 minutes (so cost would be 13.20 euros) cheeky monkeys! Mind you, I suppose we have to factor in the time it takes them to read the manual so see how to do it  Or more probably they have factored in the time it will take to repeat the procedure when we find they got it wrong

So the clutch was replaced yesterday and there is very little improvement in the stiffness of the pedal. Valeo clutch installed (checked with Valeo themselves). The XM clutch is as light as a feather, I was hoping that the Xantia would now be the same. Have to have my left hip replaced but have been told I am too young so have to wait as long as possible (or have the op outside France), so this clutch is a big deal for me to keep the car and of course now I have to push the pedal further than before so it hurts even more
Any ideas of what to try next? :)
Thanks,
Juliet

A worn clutch cable will cause the pedal to be stif, was it changed with the clutch?

No the clutch cable was not changed since another garage said the cable was ok but the clutch was definitely on it's last legs.

Am I expecting too much, should the Xantia clutch be light as a feather? The XM is a hydraulic clutch I think.

Only the 2.5 XM has a hydralic clutch*, all the others are cable.

* also the ES9 V6, but there are none in the uk

Have checked the pedal and the cable was obviously not adjusted for the new clutch, so will be doing that tomorrow.

To remove the air filter housing Haynes says to undo a bolt but I can't see one anywhere, only the clip onto the turbo pipe, is this another Haynes error or is something missing?

Thanks,
Juliet

On mine theres a jubilee underneath the airbox and the one leading out of the top. Mine is a push fit after that, just yank it upwards!

Should be just enough room to adjust the cable from there. I lubed mine with LHM, adjusted it then lubed again. Worked loose a treat, and mine was stubbornly stiff!

Great, thanks for the info, never thought of using LHM. Fingers-crossed I'll have a nice light clutch by end of play tomorrow.

Ah, so you syringed the LHM down inside the cable, good idea.
