diesel smell +high fuel consumtion

big mac is this solenoid the one with the green plastic centre and two wires attached,with the words rotodiesel and 12v on the green plastic.i think this is the part you mean it is next to the injector pump and just above the line that comes from the fuel pumpto the injector pump.sorry for sounding a bit dumb but i usually just take my car to a garage but i am determined to do this myself as every time a go into a garage it costs £200+
Yup, thats the one. Replacement costs about £25 IIRC, plus 10 minutes of your time. Dont lose the round metal dowel which falls and actually cuts off the fuel when you switch off the ignition (thus de-energising the elec. magnet which holds the dowel up). On my car the leak was very noticeable from here with engine running - hope its as obvious on yours.
