Almost as good as the 49 I got from my 2.5 on the South Coast Saunter IIRC :-D

Had TPA out for yesterday evening's get together at MK Museum. Not a big turnout, partly because of the weather I reckon, but also because the only place these meets seems to be advertised is one Facebook page, which given how impossible it is to search for anything and that it very often doesn't show up in my feed even though I do follow them. Apparently this also clashed with an MK Modern Classics meet elsewhere which also wouldn't have helped.

Weather did decide to start raining after about an hour so that was pretty much it.

Always makes me smile whenever I see this Micra. So nice to see one that's not been messed with.

This was a LOT of green.

Definitely was a bit breezy for TPA but it was a good excuse to get her out for a run anyway.

Despite the small turnout still had a good natter with a few folks.

I rather like the yellow Micra - possibly because it's yellow :)

How frequent are these Zel? I might try the next although for me they're at the wrong end of the day and conflict with my bedtime.

I think more or less monthly in the summer, they're just really bad at publicising them aside from one page on Facebook. Which I now can't find even though I follow the relevant account because Facebook's search function is such an utter and complete joke and I hate it. If I find it again I'll link you to it.

Today was loud.

Here's something I didn't expect to see at the same event.

Had forgotten how much fun these events were. Seriously considering going back to the FIA European Finals in September, when they also have the BIG stuff there. Have only been to one event with the top fuel cars there, and reckon I need to experience that again. I'd never had sheer sound levels knock the wind out of me before that.

No top fuel stuff today, but even this lot was plenty loud!

This was also an excuse to play with the 80-300mm lens for the Minoltas, so curious to see if I got any decent shots with that.

I must go there one day Zel.. Been past it thousands of times but never been. Unforgivable really when you consider I lived nearby for several years...

I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that it wasn't until a good year or two after moving in here that I realised that Santa Pod was in the UK. I'd seen it in a few videos and had heard it mentioned a load when I was a kid and had just assumed it was in the US!

Half considering going back for the European Finals on the 7th September. If you'd be interested in coming along you'd absolutely be welcome to join me.

It's worth it just for the spectacle of the Top Fuel cars if nothing else.

Have got a load of service items for the Volvo in.

6.5 litres of quite expensive oil needed for a change on that engine. Being a DPF equipped car though it needs the right stuff.

It's going into a garage on Thursday to get the rear suspension sorted. So hopefully less creaks and wobbly tracking after that. Then a full set of tyres, that's going to sting the wallet a bit, but needs must.

Really need to get back to the Rover this next week or two, it's not going to fix itself. Get the radiator pulled out to properly assess it if nothing else.

I'll have a cogitate about Satna Pod Zel, it is tempting :D What time does it all happen?

That's a lot of oil! Would do mine at least twice over and still leave a bit for topping-up ;)

Yep, you do need to give the Rover a bit of love before it sulks in a big way... Which is why I have to be careful around my fleet to give equal attention to all of them!

I like they've events called "Run what ya brung"
Can't imagine an American saying that! :-D

I have been down the strip at Santa Pod in my car at the time: a completely standard 306 Sedan 1.9 TD, many years ago, a load of folks in the uni Motor Club were made keen on going. Definitely not the fastest in the group amongst a five cylinder Audi UR Coupe (none turbo), Corsa with a 2.0 16v conversion, Mark 2 escort with a 1700, etc. There was a 1.5 Golf mk 1 automatic in the group so I think I just got away with not being the slowest, just about! 18.1 seconds for the quarter mile from memory.

https://santapod.co.uk/rwyb-run-what-ya-brung.php

£45 to have a go - from memory that's an entry fee, you can do as many runs as you can be bothered queuing for. Think I did 3 runs, could have done more if we'd got there earlier/stopped a bit later (stereotypes about dragging students out of bed!)

Not the worst for an oil change I've had. The Jag was 12 litres plus change if I remember right! Enough that draining it had to be done in at least two stages anyway.

Here's the timetable for the day: Link

Most things run a couple of rounds through the day so you can catch at least one chunk of most classes by roughly lunchtime.

Run what ya brung + Invacar :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:

That would have to be a Santa Pod first - you could probably get a world record for faster 1/4 in an invalid carriage

Would like to know the story behind the exhaust stack - be painful if you stumbled and grabbed that handy pipe when it was hot!!

Never seen a racing stripe extended to run over the windscreen glass!
