The Xantia Activa: A very rapid way to transform petrol into excessive levels of lateral G-force.

:-D I like it!!!

So do I. It is as good as the signature Stickyfinger has.

Will be a little while before I can give myself any real mpg figures for it...though anything north of the 18mpg the Saab managed around here will be considered an advantage!

Looks like we've got the first inevitable owner-change gremlin, and it's thankfully minor. The illumination of the middle three buttons in the stereo stopped working this evening!

I noticed that a few of the lamps have lost their colour, so was expecting to be opening it up at some point to do some work on the control panel anyway. Anyone know what type of lamps are used to light the stereo face? Once that's known I'll order a bunch in.

Ouch! That makes the 28mpg of my Focus around town driven normally look positively frugal

I believe the bulbs in the wireless are little wire-haired ones and soldered in Zel...

I have a couple of scrappers with duff displays if you want to practice first ;)

If they are bulbs I wonder how easy (or difficult) it would be to replace them with similar value LEDs?

That, James, is a very good idea :) Again, practice on a scrapper I have before going for the real thing ;)

The tricky thing with LEDs would be getting an accurate colour match. Plus you'll need a series resistor, which can be a challenge to fit into things like this. Also depending on the construction (I've not had one of this model apart before) the light distribution pattern can be critical to getting even illumination.

The fact that three buttons have gone out together with a sharp cut off at either end suggests to me that light pipes are quite probably involved with the lamps mounted quite remote to the actual buttons.

Will definitely take you up on the offer of a practice unit Jim. I'll try to drop by tomorrow afternoon if you're about, can drop the tape deck (now extricated from its box) off for you too. Seems to have survived its time in storage without any issues.

Zel, that'll be perfect :) Today would not be good as I'm quite poorly today :( Tomorrow should see me better one hopes [-o<

As you may have seen in another thread, I've found some NOS BNIB cassette tapes in my attic :)

It'll be good to see you :)

That will be OK Mike but beware I'm very poorly today and may not be up to a long visit if I'm not well recovered by tomorrow :(

On that basis, I'll be delighted to see you...

Always, take me as you find me. I can never predict how I am and basically just play it by ear... You'll soon know when I'm at the end of my cope and it's time to bugger off ;) :(

I'm resting today...

Well, I'm supposed to be picking family up in Huntington around 4pm, so I was going on your "any time after 2" and not planning on staying more than an hour or so as I know what you like ... Contact me else where to let me know how you are before I leave, then l shall go straight to Huntingdon if you're not up to it

Mike, that'll be just about ideal :D Assume that if you hear nothing from me or you see nothing to suggest I'm not well on facebook then do visit :)

I will be very much looking forward to seeing you... I'm starting to perk up a bit now...

You may have seen on Facebook what has caused me to be so bad today

I will try and pop a couple of things round to Mike to bring up to you, Jim. There will be an old ISA POST card (with accompanying CD) to pass on to Zel (so he can use it to test old PCs with ISA slots), and a couple of books for you to read. One is "Masquerade" (for you to borrow, I will want it back at some time), while the other should make you grin.
