Possibly warrants a place in Alasdair's car park picture on the favourite colours thread or a place on the Estates thread but this is the chance to acquire the ubiquitous car of the 60's:

They overdid the engine upgrade on the moggy, the 948cc was better, the 1098cc tended to have big end trouble.

Me too! The 1953 one
That Raleigh Runabout is nice and it'll make a good price... When I was a teenager we used to get hold of them for pennies or less and then rag them to death before breaking them for parts or just scrapping them. Back in the day they were almost worthless...
I believe, mechanically, they were more or less a copy of the Mobylette...
The Pug 206 is OK as a runabout but is not one of PSA's finest. After the 205, they were a huge disappointment... The 207 was a little better but no 205...
But then, the 205, in all its guises, is the tops and irreplaceable. Only the AX comes anywhere close

Re: Classic for under £10K
My dad had a 206 1.9 DW8 5 door in lowly LX trim.
In turns out there is a minimum amount of power I need of a car, and it's more than that!
(71 bhp, but I've never known an engine so unwilling to rev - in my imagination it was akin to a massive flywheel, in higher gears it picked up speed OK, but lower gears it just felt unwilling to go)
Didn't find the drivers seat particularly comfortable: a bit "flat" much like the engine I suppose!
Vs.
My wife had/has (not sold it yet) a later 206 in posh GTi spec with the 110 bhp 16v DV6 form. That's literally the polar opposite of the DW8! Very, very rev happy, lots of power and such fun to drive. Nice seats, leather wheel
I think the 205's shadow is always difficult to fill, but I also think the posher models do have good qualities.
I fancied trying a cheap 206 GTi in 137 or better yet 180 form but I think I've left it too late and they've all evaporated! The 137 EW10J4 isn't bad in the much heavier 406 Coupe, imagine it's good fun in a 206.

Re: Classic for under £10K
Guided at a very reasonable £1800 - £2500, but what it actually goes for is anyone's guess. It might appeal to one. ......Or maybe two people.

I like the fence shadows on some of Barons photos, you can see them on the Vauxhall but better here on a Reef Blue Jensen

Re: Classic for under £10K
That's very true Matt. I got my eldest a 1.1 TU-engined 206 as her first car. It was fine for what it was but having owned a few models of 205 over the years and having driven virtually every model in the range, the ordinary 206 just seemed a step backwards and failed to inspire like a base model 1.1 205 does/did. To be fair to Peugeot, the 205 was always going to be a hard act to follow. As was the 405.MattBLancs wrote: ↑09 Sep 2024, 19:00

Similarly, although I had a 1.1 Saxo for a long time, I will always consider them to be a poor successor to the AX.
I've never experienced the posher 206 models - maybe I should before it's too late and they're all gone. Ditto the higher spec. Saxo...
