Quoting "Gizza clue" round here means Billy Butler. There's a great story about his radio phone in quiz "Hold On To Your Plums" I can relate if you've not heard it.

Okay, here's three.

An 84-year old woman from St. Helens came onto the show. Billy’s co-host, Wally Scott, apparently said I'll give her an easy question. And the question was What's Hitler's first name? And they thought that she would know the answer given her age. But she said Err...it's just Hitler. So, they had to give her a reasonable clue.

BILLY: Think of a mammal that you can find in Sea World in Florida, it dives up and down in water, goes through hoops, you can tickle its chin and it's also got a big smile.
CONTESTANT: Err, is it a dolphin?
BILLY: That's absolutely right, love. It's a dolphin. And that's your clue to Hitler's first name. A Dolphin Hitler. A Dolphin Hitler. A DOLPHIN HITLER.
CONTESTANT: Is it Flipper?!

---------------------------------------------

BILLY: Which famous film actor was best known as the Duke?
CONTESTANT: Hmm, come on, gissa clue, Billy?
BILLY: (doing his best John Wayne impersonation) The hell I will.
CONTESTANT: You gave everybody else one!

---------------------------------------------

And my personal favourite:
BILLY: who sang "The Lion Sleeps Tonight?" (The answer's "Tight Fit" in case you don't know)
A few wrong answers later.
CONTESTANT: Gizza clue Billy!
BILLY: Think of your husband's underpants.
CONTESTANT: The Dooleys?

---------------------------------------------

The quiz was actually called Hold Your Plums (O fallible memory) and there some more on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... your+plums

Nice spot Mick, lets hope it slips through unnoticed and someone has a chance of getting it for bargain basement money :-D .

I have been enjoying Bangers and Cash which at series 4 is as good as ever. In light of your comments the other day, on the enjoyment of driving, the couple on one recent episode who bought the little Austin A35 for a bit of gorgeous pleasure motoring around the Lake district against a backdrop of wonderful scenery and picnics by the lake, was the epitome of the joy of motoring. Similarly the bubble car rally with the brightly coloured little cars, around the Yorkshire dales, and the enthusiasm and pleasure of the owners, and even the guy from Scotland who bought the 2000E mk III Cortina with one exactly the same in his garage at home enjoying just the drive out.

Just watched the video, don't think I have ever watched one where the guy from Mathewsons made so many complementary comments about a car. It's like new out the showroom, and bargain basement money is not what that's going to go for. I think there will be plenty "investor" rather than drive and use interest. My first dip into the market down at ACA at Kings Lynn a number of years ago saw a rough example go for £7,500, too steep for me. That's estimated at £11,000 to £13,000. Wouldn't be surprised if it exceeded that. They aren't making them any more, they have a following, and that is the best example I have seen.

I think it's reasonable to assume a trader/dealer saw a fairly easy revamp and turn round to make a couple of grand there! We'll see what happens!! :-D

There is quite a flow from South Africa into the classic auctions in the UK (as per that caravelle). Would anyone have the nerve to cut out 2 middle men at least, importer and the auctioneer and take a chance and buy direct :-D . No doubt there are a third set of middlemen in South Africa who can source and ship stuff to order.

Anyone ever had a look at South Africa "marketplace" sites, just out of interest...

Just to amuse myself I've been over to Argentina and had a dip into mercadolibre quite big over in South America.

Landed first in the Autos, Motos y Otros, Autos de Colección, Renault...
...and up comes the "National car of Argentina", the IKA-Renault Torino, and a touch of pininfarina

arguably the last front engine, rear wheel drive produced by "Renault".

I have a friend who emigrated to SA to be close to her daughter, she has hated the place with a passion for its crime and corruption but is unable to sell the house she had built and escape back to the UK.

There is always the fear that a "bargain" and its shipping may well turn into a one-way ticket for your hard-earned Gibbo :-D

I'm still in Argentina and come across a blast from the past, which is a very rare sight on the roads, the Ford Sierra.
I had a decent enough Ford Sierra Estate, and then a less decent Ford Sierra Turbo diesel, which was only cured of its persistent black smoking when the cambelt snapped and I had to resurrected it with a bit of cylinder head/valves refurb.

The 2.3 Sierra could be a Diesel or the V6 Cologne Petrol. The Diesel would normally have a DL clagged on so I am assuming this 2.3 Ghia is the V6 Petrol.
