Re: A strange thing happened last night
Chris, finally found the picture of the lump of mastic..
It's critical as it diverts water running down the A pillar away from the heater intake...

Haven't got anything like that Jim.. I'll have a try with some silicone tomorrow and see what happens.
Thanks for the photo,

Re: A strange thing happened last night
My scuttle is really well sealed with sealant as you can see in the photo Jim I can't see any water getting in there..I've sealed all along the top of the scuttle and it seems to have a good hold on the screen as well as the scuttle.
I'm going to have another look at the aerial base again tonight and if its wet .. I'll know for sure.
But back to the original thread.. I've had no re occurance of the other nights drama.. But sitting in the car doing a Lexia check today on the injectors and faults. I revved the car up to 3500RPM .. but she didn't want to go there and went back to 3000.. I pressed the accelerator a little more and found that she would stay at 3700 and upwards no problem and 3000 downwards as well just wasn't happy in the 3000-3500 range.
When I think about it, I did rev the car harder than normal last week .. maybe I got into the 3000 plus area.
I also found another fault referring to fuel pump supply coherence.. which varied between permament and intermittent.
I think I've also found a faulty injector .. no. 3 which at 1250 RPM where my "missing" seems to happen, and above is the only injector to have a positive value.. all the others are closely matched on a negative value.. So I think I'll try an Injector swap tomorrow, together with a lok at the pump connectors, and run the tests again.

Re: A strange thing happened last night
Chris, it's water running down the rubber gutter moulding on the A pillar that causes the issue. It exits the gutter moulding just under the wing edge and under the plastic scuttle panel.
If that blob if mastic is not there as a guide under the scuttle the water can flow into the intake...

I replaced No.3 and that certainly has helped things.. it came out all mucky with the tip black. The 3000 RPM issue seems to have all but gone away.. however the 1200 RPM issue is still ther , but seems to be associated with the activation/deactivation of the 3rd fuel pump piston.. So I'll do a little research on that...
