No fans of the 2.2HDi here then. If fuel economy is not top of your list then i think a 2.2 transplant isn't too bad an idea, a reliable 136bhp standard and easily tuned to 160bhp, lots of midrange grunt in 3rd & 4th as well. Around town, they don't make too much sense but on open roads they're not as bad as people make them out to be. I've "suffered" mine for 3 years now and its never let me down apart from a blocked DPF which was soon jet washed out.

Its the amazement that it was an Ultra "Modern" engine with latest - then - fuel technology, but still managed just around 40mpg! The XM in 1992 with a mechanical Bosch pump was seeing 50mpg..

The injector issue I guess could be reduced IF the leaking seal was caught soon enough and not too much coal sealed the injector in.. anyway. Normally Id buy a DERV for outright economy, rather then grunt... if the grunt is there with the economy then great.
