It's that time again!

And

She would have been ten years old when she recorded that!

Yet another superb demonstration of Emily's talent, both vocal and musicianship, interesting to compare with the original below and say which you prefer?

The original version:

My preferred Leonard Cohen version:

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Cohen's versions are better than all the others, even the acapella version by Jackie Evancho and Peter Hollens.

The one that comes closest for me is this one by Imogen Heap, done for an American TV series, "The OC" on the death of one of the girls in the show. It is incomplete, deliberately so.

Imogen writes a lot of music for film and TV.

Crashing Surf introductions No 1

Hadn't heard this one for a while until Tony Blackburn selected it tonight.

On a similar theme, there is an album by Walter/Wendy Carloss, "Sonic Seasonings".
Have a tape here but nothing to play it on.
No singing, just electronic music and sea sounds.

Can only find it on Vimeo that requires a sign-in. Not too onerous but I will use Video Downloader to save it.

Another similarity is "The Sea" (album) by Ian McEwan/San Sebastian Strings but spoken voice, slightly poetic, set to music with seaside sounds.
Also directed by Rachel Elkind
Bought the LP in the mid sixties and have a CD, can't find either.

Here is a theme in the tradition of themes on the PE Jukebox, formerly a well-supported pastime on the thread. See what you can come up with, should be a reasonable amount of scope.

BLUE

As the theme springs from todays "Blue Gallery" here, viewtopic.php?p=811324#p811324 I will start it off with "Don't it make my brown eyes Blue" contributed by Gibbo. I leave it up to Mick to decide whether to bring "Blue is the Colour" into the Pickled Egg fold :-D

A long time since this LP was on the turntable.
Don't like all of it but Cameleon, Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word and Where's The Shoorah get played on YouTube occasionally.

I remember that album Steve, and dug this out of it which I liked and posted up. I will have to listen again to refresh my memory of what the "Sweeney-esque more melancholy outro for a long running TV series was" :-D
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 03 Apr 2024, 10:30 Not driving music per se, but this let's say never played and now forgotten ditty from Elton John, was once in a Sweeney-esque more melancholy outro for a long running TV series...

I like it, nice to hear it in its long form, and don't worry he doesn't sing!

Oh dear these themes ain't what they used to be after a promising start.

Easiest ever theme

Strange thing, only works if folk join in.

Aquamarine is close enough for me...take it away Carlos and see if it inspires a few more contributions

This doesn't sound like my LP, his voice seems very strained.
Not the best track on the album by far.
