I don't sing in front of SWMBO at all Ryan. I once filled the Albert Hall with my singing - I was in the Festival Hall!! :-D

Time to learn something. The youtube versions of this, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Tex Ritter etc would have you imagine this was indeed Born in the USA. Not a bit. Small read of wiki reveals that this
"Frog Went a-Courtin'" (Roud No. 16;[1] see alternative titles) is an English-language folk song. Its first known appearance is in Wedderburn's Complaynt of Scotland (1549) under the name "The Frog cam to the Myl dur", though this is in Scots rather than English. There is a reference in the London Company of Stationers' Register of 1580 to "A Moste Strange Weddinge of the Frogge and the Mouse." There are many texts of the ballad; however the oldest known musical version is found in Thomas Ravenscroft's Melismata in 1611.
The Wiki pages have some interesting trivia and speculation on origin, King Henry II arranged a remarkable betrothal for his son to the five year old Mary, Queen of Scots, in the Châtillon agreement of 27 January 1548, when Francis was only four years old. Francis of France being the "Frog" and "Missie Mouse" being Mary Queen of Scots.

Many versions, Wally Whyton supplying the definitive one for us, but in a further piece of trivia Mike Oldfield chose to put it on the B-Side of "The Mike Oldfield Single" Not a lot of people know that...

I'll have a listen later, grandson working nightshift so will disturb him otherwise.

Can't listen to this either, may be interesting.

I've got a few of their records at Bobins' Towers, I really rate his 'I Trawl The Megahertz' but I can absolutely, definitely, positively see how it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. For me it's a bit immersive in that it takes attention to listen to it - but that makes it excellent for forgetting about everday life :)
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

I am literally trying "I trawl the megahertz" right now having read the article about Paddy McAloon and Prefab Sprout. I like it very much, and here it is. For those who don't know it don't expect songs your word immersive captures it.
Interesting...

Haven't heard this one since...this morning on Radio 2. The Kinks with a typically quirky little ditty.

Have we got enough rousing songs for the Pickled Egg Punters to join in with... :?:

We could try this Neapolitan one which came to mind with my own mention of "funicular" on "One for the Train Buffs".

Andre Rieu is always lively, and I always find Russell Watson, a canny lad which is very high praise indeed in this part of the world.

While Russel Watson is up, I would also recommend "Pokarake Ana" with Hayley Westenra.

I think that Hayley was 15 at the time.

My doorway is full of the bloody things and as soon as I sweep them out it fills up again.

But reminiscent of a line from a Cowboy Junkies track "Good Friday"

Sat at my window watched the world
Wake up this morning
Purple sky slowly turning golden,
Distant elms so orange
You'd swear they're burning
